Trade up? What are you willing to give up?

He’s tried to do all three things… wait, move up, move back. I could see is moving up to 6 or 3 and I could also see us moving back to 12. He’s pretty good at gathering intel based on prior drafts.

We are a little bit at the mercy of the Wiz… I wonder if he’d throw 28 just to move up a spot.
9 plus 28 for 8. Sign me up if they would take it and Ausar, Hendrix, or Cam were available.

One of those or Walker would be guaranteed to be available.
It would be a little bit of controlling our own destiny if they don’t like the pg options. I do think if you had Walker or Hendricks in hand an offer to Portland for 3 looks a lot better. A little two step. Just whatever happens don’t punt on 28 but splitting into future second round picks.

I would absolutely do it.

I'd think long and hard about Lauri for #2. Hard pass on #3. IMO you better really like Brandon Miller or T. Hendricks to aggressively move up for #3 - we'll get a very good player at #9 as it stands.

The idea was Lauri for Scoot regardless if it’s at 2 or 3.

Really like that idea, though the Wiz will know we’re at their mercy and try to milk it.

Here’s a question what is the lowest you’d go to move up with 9/16?

Would you do it for 7 or would the minimum be 6?

What about all 3? Would you do that for 6 or would the minimum be 5?

Obviously depends on who is still available where, but blindly I would say it would have to be 6 at least. We have a good chance at getting two solid players with 9 and 16, so the one player we would get instead would have to really be worth it. I’d probably do it for Ausar.

Basically yes. I think that it what it they want in minimum if we dont send lauri or walker in the process. Its just that that 28 pick is not very valuable. And Utah have what 13 first round picks in next 5 years? And i like the kid (Scoot) already.

So Utah pays the price to get Embiid (MVP of the league), but then doesn't actually get Embiid.

It's not the pick, its the player.

Let's take Wemby, Scoot, Miller, and Amen off the table.

Ausar or Cam, I think you have to do it. Then it's pretty tricky. If the FO fell in love with Hendricks enough to aggressively go get him, I would be excited that they like him so much, so I guess I'm fine with that. Walker is unlikely to hit #9 and so you probably have to be okay with that too. But that's kind of it. Black is the only player left who is less than like 65% to be available at #9 anyway.

I think it's crucial to trade up before the draft happens, like for 6th for instance. Otherwise, the trade cost goes extremely high during the time of the draft when a really good player starts dropping. It's a lot more difficult to move up then. Anyway, I'd keep an eye on Dallas. They might drop in into 8th and grab a good player right under from us. lol

If we got Walker at 9 I'm ripping the phone out of the wall and grabbing a beer.

I don't even drink beer.

I think I call whatever GM is running the Wiz right now and ask if 9/28 works for 8. How dug in on draft prep are they… one spot for one pick?

Not sure I would definitely execute but I can see those guys going real conservative as an interim GM and going Cason over Black and Ausar/Walker/Hendricks… Ausar may not have extra appeal to the Blazers unless Schmitz is a fan but if you had one of the other two the offer to Porty looks so much sweeter as both of those guys fit really well and can at least be functional in a bench role very early.

If we can land one of those dudes we can likely finesse our way up from 16 to Black (assuming Wiz get conservative) without a huge cost… or you go Bufkin or sign a pg in FA if all those options are gone.

I just wish we had lost like 5 more games.

I can't believe people would consider trading him only for 1 pick even if it is #3. He is worth more than Rudy or Donovan packages to me.
If we could trade Lauri for the Donovan package then we’ve discovered the perpetual talent machine since we’d be getting back Lauri.

Basically yes again. It just that if you want Portlands 3rd pick, you had to give them something, which gives them change to win it all in next 1-3 years(?). And thats player like Embiid from Philadelphia. And Philadelphia sells Embiid only if they get something valuable back like good players and first round picks. More like a bunch of first round picks to be exact. But if Portland sends in 3 team trade Nurtic and A.Simmons to Philadelphia, Philadelphia can accept on pick less from us. And then it might be something like 9, 16,, 28, lakers first and 1-3(?) other firsts from us to Philadelphia? It still something like 5-7 first rounders (one is just late 28), but as i said earlier Utah had a bunch of first in next 5 years (13?) and you basically have to acquire some players with them anyway. And Scoot is one of the best point guard prospects in the last few years in my and some experts opinion and could be 1st overall pick in many other drafts. And we would still have what 7(?) first round picks in next 5 years and chance to acquire more good players in draft or trade or free agency. And our core would then be Lauri, Walker, Scoot + sexton, occhi (valuable players and about same age group) and some others (THT?) for next >5 years. And then I think that you probably just need one more good piece (forward?) to be very competitive in next >5 years. And if Scoot is not available in 3rd pick i would be very happy to draft Brandon MIller with Portland 3rd pick.

The main issue is, if Portland is wanting immediate help, the only players in that position are Lauri and Kessler and I doubt that Utah trades both. All things equal, if whomever falls to 3 becomes "that guy" and we can get them without trading Lauri or Kessler, our rebuild is pretty much set for the framework of the team going forward. But we're going to have to trade one or both of Kessler and Lauri to make that work and I don't see it happening.
