2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I dont trade lauri. Its hard to find a superatar that is willing to stay here and likes utah. Lauri says he loves it here. To bad fans seem willing to throw him away. You may never get another lauri in utah.

If you look at the all NBA teams and all star teams throughout the years you will mostly find:

1. Guys that were obvious can't miss prospects that were drafted high.
2. Guys that were drafted lower because people thought they would be good role players, but low ceiling.

What you don't find as often much are guys that were drafted low because they were boom/bust prospects. These guys don't fit into group 1 because they weren't productive enough but share some similar "high potential" characteristics. They don't fit into group 2 because they weren't productive coming into the NBA and the guys in group 3 do not have the "high ceiling" attributes.
I'm a little confused by your final sentence (boom/bust prospects but without high ceilings?), but doesn't Jaden McDaniels fit here? (not all all-star, but Jazz getting killed by Jazzfanz for not taking this "obvious" pick)

Your confused because Kqwin made some stuff up and said it

I think the only way I would trade Lauri is if I didn't think I could extend him or there was any question about that. The other reason to trade Lauri was if you didn't feel like you could put a contender around him during his timeline. It feels like it's pretty safe to assume we are going to extend him, and I think he's still way too young to worry about his timeline.

That said, Sharpe looked pretty special towards the end of the year. I just looked up his last 10 games and he was putting up 24/6/4 on 46/38/77. Putting him together with Scoot/Miller and Kessler + whatever we get for/pick at 9, 16, 23, and 28 could be a crazy young/good core all on rookie contracts. We would still have Hardy, all of our assets, and cap room to hopefully build quickly and surround them with vets. That team might be ready to win sooner than you think.

Like I said, I still don't trade Lauri, but I do get it.

Lauri is special now

Who is the player in this draft that is generally thought to go late first round or later that could have star upside? And not guys who have hype like GG/Bilal, but more upperclassmen/not on most people's radars to potentially go top 20.

I'm gonna say Jaime Jaquez
Yeah, I've been kind of biased for Jaquez for a long time, but if you go back and look at Givony's DX write-up for Butler, it's really not all that different from what we think of Jaquez now.

Looking at their stats and advanced stats the only huge difference is Butler was a master foul drawer. Obviously he probably won't become Jimmy Butler, but maybe he can be a guy who averages 20-5-3.

I agree. Like I said, I wouldn't trade him.

I do worry about getting additional top level talent to surround him with though. I know we have lots of shots at it, but none of our options feel especially likely to bring us the kind of talent that wins championships.
It's going to be harder to win championships if you delay your team building to peak during Wemby's prime.
