2023 Trade Rumors and Gossip Involving the Jazz

Lol if you waive someone you still have to pay their salary.
Ah so we were helping the Lakers out by taking Westbrook off their hands.
Someone told me that the jazz taking Westbrook from the Lakers didn't matter because the Lakers could have just waived him

Ok… lol. They got three players for him so obviously we helped them.

If there was a team that could absorb the salary they would’ve loved to have done that. There weren’t, so it’s moot.

I’m also not sure if that would’ve gotten them actual cap space which if it didn’t functionally wouldn’t have meant anything besides getting rid of him, which *drum roll* was probably the biggest benefit of trading him. To simply be rid of him, saying nothing of money.

Absorbing the salary is different… removes him from their cap and replaces him with zero dollars and since they are over the tax I ends up saving em more than just the 30M… might be like 60-70M. Haven’t run the numbers. We could also play Lowry… and he’s still a positive player for the Heat.

Affirmative. With the new CBA rules, Utah's pending cap space is suddenly VERY valuable to teams like Miami that need to create room to retain other players while staying under certain aprons or Golden State that just flat NEED to get under the second apron so they can make actual roster moves. Utah could just take Lowry (or a similar player) our space and get a pick, good young player, or both for our trouble without the need to send anything back. Utah can, in turn, use him or just trade the contract at the deadline to another team wanting to create space for next offseason for another asset.

Personally, this is why I don't view huge expiring deals as necessarily a negative assets because at worst, it clears your books or, at best, it clears another team's books and you get something for your trouble.

TL;DR but has a single rumor been posted in this thread?

Seems like a rival thread to the “offseason” thread. MODZZZZZZZZZ!
There is a rumor Hearsky's mom has the clap. Looking into a group buy for antibiotics for every member on JFC.

I like the 10th pick in the draft for one of Cason, Gradey, GG, Bufkin or George. If the Cavs want to move salary, the Jazz can move Olynyk's non-guaranteed deal, along with #16. Jazz would then draft back-to-back at 9 and 10.

I like that. Would be even better if Washington would take 9 & 28 for 8 so we don’t depend on their whims and have a good chance at coming out of the draft with a good prospect wing and PG.

The tweet got deleted, but it was a reporter saying that the Mavs want to attach #10 to a contract like Bertans, THJ or McGee and take back a player. I'm saying the Jazz could offer Olynyk and #16.

I understood that. Would like that and a Washington deal so we end up with 8 & 10.
