2023 NBA Draft Megathread

mostly vanilla, positive comments, which makes this one about Sensabaugh even worse:

A Big 10 coach: “He is a shot-maker. You have to stay close to him and contest his shot. I thought he was out of shape and a poor defender. He was a very dangerous scorer and shot-maker at all levels. As the season wore on, he was not as effective. Seemed very selfish, a volume shot taker. I wouldn’t want to coach him.”

damn. tell us how you really feel. acknowledged the great shot making with all the other negatives and then ended with a bomb.

What if Portland throws in #3.... and an extra pick or two. They have a pick they owe to Chicago but there is noise about them moving the NY pick or changing that protections on that.

Read an article on the Athletic on trades for the 4th pick and was shocked at how big I thought the overpay was for worse players than Lauri. Its just a team writer but just wonder how wild offers could get if no one decides to sell.

What was this in regards to?

Sounds like he torched them or spurned them when recruiting.

Sorry... the Lauri convo but its thinking out loud.... like the last few years so many teams have pushed in... and now a few more are looking to do so... what if there are no sellers...Toronto, Brooklyn, etc. don't pony up the players Portland likes and they send like #3 and a couple other future picks for Lauri.

It just seems like a few teams may be a little more anxious to move high picks than in the past. Normally those teams aren't trying to win now so those picks are basically untouchable. What happens if they keep throwing chips in the pot? #3 and a couple picks in the future (unprotected) for Lauri... just wonder where the tipping point would be and how desperate they are.

The smart answer is they just make the pick and move Dame at some point but teams keep doing dumb things so who knows.

Like I've seen daily reports about how Brooklyn won't do #3/Simons and stuff for Bridges.... and I'm like... in prior years that seems like a no brainer. I know Brooklyn doesn't have control of their own picks so its not like they benefit from tanking. But what happens if they offer #3/Simons and like 2 more picks and they say no... and then Danny raises his hand and says "can I interest you in a player better than Bridges?".

it would sound like that if it didn't confirm what happened in games. he could score. but looked fat, couldn't jump, was slow and couldn't defend anybody. short too, tbh.

having said that, the ability to score, if it can be done efficiently, is the single most important skill in nba basketball, so it can overcome a lot of warts. but he has to be able to be efficient, and it was only mediocre in that department in big 10 play and as the coach said, he did get worse as the season wore on.

This article had some amazingly bad proposals... but it made me think we might be over-valuing the 3-4th picks if the NBA gms see it anywhere in this ballpark.

holy crap the raptors would make out like bandits in that deal. in three years eason could very well be anunoby. let alone getting the #4 and a future first and serviceable player in kj martin out of the deal. if the rockets don't simply hang up the phone, og is even more overrated than i could imagine.

You take deal if you're the raptors

uh yeah. you get it done fast before the rockets come to their senses.
I am not sure what was more crazy... that the Houston Athletic guy proposed it or that the Raps Athletic guy said no... that's right... he passed.

The OG trade hype is bonkers and that article was pretty terrible... but it got me thinking if teams are really willing sellers that we might be able to do something at a reasonable price.

Lmfaooo

That was one of the worst articles I’ve read regarding trade proposals. He gets paid to write for them too!
But also the Raps writer (who I do like) is all... #4, a future first, Eason, KJ and some cap space... for OG on a 1 year deal.... Pass!!!!

Like... wut?
