2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I think if you trade Conley at the beginning of the season, you end up with a very different result overall. Maybe sexton and THT show out, but Conley kept the Jazz in a LOT of games early on when they put together their strong run to start the year.
I agree. Conley was the one that won us and kept us in a lot of games we needed to lose in the first half of the season. Not sure this is the case but let's assume we wouldn't have gotten the LAL pick if we traded Conley back then and we would have lost 3-4 more games and this sends us up to the 6th slot post lottery. Would that be worth it?

If we use the LAL pick, do we get to no. 6?

I think we could have done Bogey Conley Vando type deal early in the season and still gotten one lakers pick… especially if we threw in some seconds like we did.

We also could have load managed Mike more when we did have him…

Woulda shoulda coulda… what’s done is done and we ended with a good enough result. Maybe the draft gets weird and someone slides or a team let’s us trade up for a cheap price.

We definitely should have traded Conley before the year. But I remember so much opposition to trading him throughout the year even at the deadline. He was too valuable because of veteran mentorship and what not. I felt like Conley was a ticking time bomb and we needed to trade him whenever we could. We were fortunate to work him into the LAL deal.

I do think #28 is a good spot for GG. We haven’t talked about that pick as much. Who else to people like there? My favorites are:

Jaquez
Bailey
Podz
Colby Jones

I think the guy we have not talked about much at #16 who might even be in play at #9 is Nick Smith Jr. Everyone had him at least top going into the season. Got injured, stunk it up whenever we saw him. But this is the year of the excuse and he does have an excuse.

Next two guys I’ll watch closely are JHS and NSJ. Two guys I’m not a fan of but we could very easily end up drafting.

The Laker trade falling through and refusing to sit Conley on B2Bs had me seething all season. Easy opportunities to lose, what, 10 more games? Easily?

Didn’t appreciate ****ing around and finding out, but Ainge made a good salvage of a Laker trade. Would’ve been better on every front if they would’ve done the better version of it in August, though.

I still haven't watched the 10 minute highlights for the 23-30 range... so I can share my definitive and obviously infallible opinion :D

It's true...ask anyone. It's been widely reported that the Blazers are looking to trade the 3rd pick for a really good win now player to pair with Dame. The Blazers have absolutely no interest in trading it for picks or young talent.

A while back i also heard that they were trading dame so who knows.
I even remember a thread on jazzfanz called dame time or somet

Yeah, I'd definitely say the Jazz got more than they deserved. They undeniably made conscious decisions that artificially deflated the team record. It's not quite the same thing, but complaining about the Jazz only tanking to 9 is kinda like complaining about not winning enough when you're trying to win. The Jazz were not the only team trying to lose on purpose. Just as there are teams in a better position to win, there were teams in a better position to lose. By virtue of having Lauri Markannen (among others) the Jazz were not able to be one of the worst teams in the league. The reason why we were in the 9 spot is not because the Jazz tried to win and were anti tank.

To echo your last point, it would have to take even more purposeful actions to lose on purpose to get even higher. Now I think the Jazz could have been quicker to execute on b)....but realistically speaking the Jazz did not have higher odds because they had Lauri Markannen. If you wanted a higher pick and that is what's most important, he is the man standing in the way. While it's easy to feel envious of a team with a higher draft position, having Lauri Markannen is also a position to be envied. He is the man most responsible for the Jazz not being higher in the draft, but I am very happy with the tradeoff he's given us.

Yep. Like a lot of us were saying from the start…… should have traded conley early on. Should have traded bogey for draft compensation. Should have rested dudes on back to backs.
Remember when the jazz were sitting out sexton and clarkson at the end of the year when both could play? Should have done that earlier and oftener.

If we had executed the tank perfectly we would be drafting at 5 and this last year would have been miserable and few here would have watched the games this season. It also would have required trading Lauri for scraps. I'm OK with having had a fun season, a near all NBA player in the All Star Game, and drafting only four spots back with the assets to move up if we need to.
Nope. If we had shifted to "evaluate our players mode" at the all star break then we would have had a 5th worst record. We would have swapped with Portland if the lottery balls fell the same way. We needed to lose 20 of our last 30 and we lost 15 of our last 20.

I wouldn't trade the first half of the season. Just the 2 weeks after all star break where we went 6 / 10 games.

If we committed to the tank then, its a different story. We traded our crew. It was the right time. The team was too competitive for 2 extra weeks. At the time we were 4 games above the bottom 4 teams. The 5 spot was an easy target.

Oh the dude who measured with average leaping ability is now showing off his explosiveness?

You can eye roll all you want, but it's clear Giving tweets fluff on some prospects and not others.

What’s worse if GG performed poorly in a workout or if he said or did something to someone like Givony that now he has a personal agenda to bad mouth him.

It’s just a weird persecution complex the GG folks seem to have… bad things aren’t his fault… it’s everyone around him… it’s why he’s GG Teflon.
