2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Please do not ask me to answer a post from the worst poster on the site ever again. Seriously. Dude isn’t even worth a response. He’s a very bad attempt at a troll.

This clown just said Black didn’t do anything in the biggest game of his life yet against UConn (eventual National Champions) in the Sweet 16 he scored 20 points and had 5 steals.
Is he? Didn’t know.

How about this comment about Andre Jackson Jr? Sounded like he’s a good comp for Black at a quick glance.

Some interesting tidbits from Bryan Kalbrosky’s latest mock draft from USA Today. All of the stats are via Stats Perform.

Whitmore scored 0.76 points per touch on drives which is as the best among players projected to go in the first.

Hendricks is one of 10 high-major freshman ever to record 35 dunks and 35 threes in their freshman season. Most recent freshman to do it was Mathurin. 7 out of the last 9 to do it went top-7.

Black shot 37.5% on uncontested 3’s and 47.1% on threes from NBA range.

Wallace shot 42.1% on threes from NBA range and 48.4% on corner threes.

Rafael Barlowe said several scouts and agents believe OKC is targeting Bilal at 12.

Michigan outscored opponents by 24.3 points per 100 possessions when Bufkin was on the court vs when he was not which was 4th best among players in high-major college basketball.

Marquette outscored opponents by 26.8 points per 100 possessions when OMP was on the court vs when he was not which ranked 2nd best among players in high-major college basketball.

Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo said Whitehead been unable to conduct workouts after his recent foot surgery and because of that he is widely perceived as a question mark before the draft.

Lively held opponents to 36.8% from the paint when guarded by him and opponents shot 29.8% from the paint when he was on the floor.

Rafael Barlowe said Keyonte arguably had the best pro-day out of everyone and is in tremendous shape.

L. Miller had the highest percentage of passes that lead to a hockey assist (4.3%) of all projected first round picks.

Sensabaugh made at least 50 shots at the rim, mid-range and from three. Of all freshman to ever do that he joins McCollum, Markkanen and Fultz as being the only 4 freshman to do that and shoot at least 40% from each zone.

Podz shot 43.8% from 3 and 69.9% of those were contested which is the highest amount out of any player in the draft.

Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo said some believe Klintman could have a promise in the 20’s. Michael Scotto said there is a belief circulating that the Indiana is high on Klintman.
Great post. Lots of good stuff

In what way? He’s a junior and Black is better than him at literally everything besides rebounding. If Jackson was doing what he did this season as a freshman he would be higher rated.

Some A+ **** here friend… thx for sharing.

Some pretty impressive stats from multiple guys. The Hendricks one sticks out to me as extremely impressive. Similar to what Lauri did for us this year.

The Black and Wallace shooting numbers makes me feel better about their shooting prospects.

Whitmore with a crazy stat which I’m not surprised at. All around good stuff!

There are some limited sample size stats from the Thompson twins but Amen is extremely elite at finishing in transition and Ausar had some very good defensive stats.

I don't really care about any of the Thompson twins stats. That league was just too awful to really take anything from it. For me it's just watching how they move and imagining how that translates to the NBA.

It is weird to me that this is what convinces the GG Teflon folks to jump off the bandwagon… no excuses like the workout was too hard or he ate real heavy or he tanked the workout out of loyalty or Gary Parrish just hates him cuz he doesn’t have an agent. Cmon… stick to your convictions.

I'm not off the bandwagon. However, the ONE THING that GG needs to demonstrate during the pre-draft process is that he's coachable and that his immaturity isn't a long-term issue. If all these rumors are true, it sounds like he's doing the opposite.

This is what happened with Hassan Whiteside in 2010. He was supposed to be a mid 1st-rd pick, then in pre-draft interviews he came off as unserious and clueless. He fell to #33 in his draft and had to struggle to stay in the league.

Same here.

If Black could knock down 3s consistently…

It’s over.

Last year, I was pretty in on Dyson Daniels -- great measurables, good athleticism, lead-guard skills, limited shot making. The idea is that Daniels would learn to shoot. Maybe it will happen sometime, but it didn't happen in his first year, and until it does he's a defensive-minded backup who plays off the ball. Daniels barely gets on the floor, and the backup PG role is still going primarily to Kira Lewis.

Staying at 9 our worst case scenario is starting to look like maybe Walker.

I would take Hendricks and Black over him comfortably.

I think the Jazz are going to seriously consider trading up to #6 in order to draft one of Whitmore or Walker, as neither one is expected to make it to 9. Personally, I would be happy with Walker at 9, I would be lukewarm at best with Hendricks, and I would be disappointed with Black.

GG at 28? If Hardy thinks he can make a real difference, otherwise I would trust Ainge.

That said, I do think a player like Rudy Gay is like one of the few players in the league that could reach someone who has a lot of personal issues and help them grow.

GG needs to demonstrate that he's a serious person and that he wants to be coached and work hard. That's it. The mental side is a huge part of being a high-level athlete, and Will Hardy isn't going to let it slide if GG can't do it.

Amen's combination of size, length, explosion and handle means he's going to break the paint into little pieces. No one is going to stay in front of him. If the shooting never happens, he's still the John Wall of this draft.

Hendricks is better than Walker.

If you want someone to spot up and space the floor, then yes. If you want a three-level scorer and secondary creator, then no. Hendricks makes a lot of sense for Dallas or Orlando.

If the Magic trade back from #6 to #9 with the Jazz, I think it will be because they are very confident that Hendricks will be available at #9.

Maybe Utah, Washington and Orlando can put their heads together, figure out who wants who, and shuffle picks 6, 8 and 9 to sort it out. Someone gets Walker. Someone gets Black. Someone gets Hendricks.
