2023 NBA Draft Megathread

This clearly sounds like a smokescreen. It might spook some teams to do stupid decisions that actually like Coulibaly. I mean, Coulibaly seems like a great prospect but 9 is definitely high in my opinion. Maybe 12 to 17 is a good drafting spot for him. I'm fine at 16 for him.

Barlowe mentioned that he has multiple sources telling him this. Maybe it's a smokescreen, but if he can triangulate multiple different sources there might be something to it. It also makes sense if the Jazz view Hood-Schifino, Bufkin or George as roughly equivalent.

I love the idea that if a player is already good at important thing they have low upside… it’s some genius level big brain thinking and it’s been proved to be stupid so frequently. Believe it or not guys can expand their games if they do a few things really well.
You love just making peoples talking points up

In fact, being good enough at NBA basketball to get and stay on the floor is almost a requirement to improve.

But sure, let’s yolo on some cats that just look good but WERE COMPLETE *** AT THE THING THEY ARE SUPPOSEDLY GOOD AT.

Dunn per 36 number for the jazz:
8 assists, 18.4 points, 6 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 54% from the field and 47% from three. Pretty awesome.

Sexton: 21.5 points per 36 on shooting percentages of 51% from the field and 39% from 3 (82% from the line). only 4.3 assists though.

I think those dudes are good enough to run the jazz for a while. Can always get a lead guard with one of our million other future draft picks or in a trade or with our cap space. there are lots of dudes who fit the physical profile of a point guard to pick from. Even in this draft it seems like there is a whole ton of good point guards that will be available at all of the jazz pick positions. Not a ton of good bigs/wings will be available though. I think there is a reason for that.

Fwiw THT: 6.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 19.1 points per 36 on 42% from the field and 29% from 3.

Conley with the jazz: 9 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 13 points per game per 36 on 41% from the field and 36% from 3. Honestly im surprised that his numbers dont look all that good. in fact Dunn looks the best imo, followed by sexton and then THT and conley are close with the edge to conley due to assists (if tht was more efficient then I would put conley dead last.)

Conley with the least amount of scoring, least amount of rebounds, most assists, and 2nd worst efficiency (no one can beat THT in being inefficient). Surprising stuff.

Not gonna do NAW numbers cause he barely played but it seems like he played pretty well for the most part when given a chance.

Hard to factor in defense but I feel like Dunn and THT were known as really good defenders and Sexton busts his but at all times at least. Conley is kind of known as a poor defender from what I can remember (mostly due to his lack of size)
I’ve thought about adding a guy like Bruce Brown to our group and going with a pg by committee thing if we didn’t find someone we loved in FA and the draft. Pg is our biggest current and future need but we may not love Cason or Black enough to draft them over the wings… it’s a tough position to fill cuz long term it kinda locks you into some things depending on the guy you take.

As to this lead guard conversation, I think there are paths in free agency and the trade market that could be productive so I’m not married to this notion that we have to get one in this draft. But it would be good to get at least one in the development pipeline so we have at least one that is homegrown. I mean, if Hardy can revive the careers (or dramatically improve the play) of multiple flawed players (which basically our entire backcourt rotation did/does), imagine what he can do from seed.

TLDR; I’m basically BPA.

Also, Hendricks providing spacing and defense for a reliable 5-out lineup is not some vanilla ****. Could be some cheat code ****. We need to figure out how to make Lauri the most effective weapon possible.

other than the last part of the season, if that is tanking our asses off, we are really bad at tanking smh
It’s referring to the last part of the season, mostly. It also factors in that last year’s roster was not designed to be competitive and everyone knows that.

not even when the Finnisher was dominant with veteran floor general and we were sitting there is the mix for the playoffs?
I guess it's easy to forget we were actually pretty good until the deadline

Whether the Jazz were good or not for a stretch does not change that the Jazz were not designed to be competitive. Being *** to get a good pick were plans A and C (they tinkered with plan B which was letting the success ride and maybe see what happens).
