Booo Alec Burks as point guard

That was humor, gramps. Of the sarcasm variety. Here's a belated

Sorry! Can't recognize my own weapons when they are used against me. But i notice you don't deny that you are Kinahan's mother.

I didn't think he showed a lack of skill.

He doesn't know the offense and has no idea how to direct others. Somebody else needed to initiate the sets.

Also the team was lazy. Nobody set good screens that I saw, not many guys running hard within the offense and nobody boxed out. Missing Watson big-time. IMO he would have gotten their heads in it, or pulled them out as it were.

It is amazing how quickly people panic and come to conclusions based on the most minute set of data. It's more a testament to the emotional attatchment people have to the team than balanced analysis. The same thing happens when a player has one bad game, "trade Al, Raja, Harris, Millsap. Gordon sucks, Favors has no offense, Kanter will never finish at the rim, Burks has no point-guard skills etc." Burks probably isn't a pure PG but was timid last night. He will imporve and could be a viable back-up.

He didnt do anything well. He showed no glimpses of being able to run point.

Either you have it or you dont. Ill take Harris at point over him any day

This is a ridiuclous thread. Blaming Burks for the loss? Maybe I watched a different game. And to say that point guards are born and the skills can't be learned. That can only be from someone who never played the game. Where is that "Instant Point Guard - just add water" kit when you need it?

Personally I think Corbin should just have played Tinsley 48 minutes.... then the Jazz would have run going away... Forget the fact that Ellis and Curry had their best games of the season together... by far. And Biedrins decided to rebound for the first time this season. If only Burks hadn't played PG for those 10+ minutes.... damn...

To me, as of right now, Burks is Deshawn Stevenson 2.0
Athletic, good handles, slasher, plays out of control, can't shoot a lick.

He's only a rookie so I'm still expecting him to grow and improve his game.

I like DeShawn, but I think Burks has a far better shot and better scoring skills than DeShawn showed as a rookie, and some of what you see as out of control I see as great quickness.

It was bad, but the kid is 1. a rookie and 2. not a PG. He got thrown into that job because of injuries, so I don't know how we could expect him to do very well. Tinsley, on the other hand, played great from what I saw (turned it off early in the 4th). Burks will be a very good player once he gets some experience...just not a PG (at least not soon) and that's okay.

I'm sure it would help Burks if he actually got to PRACTICE a few times playing PG. He is a quick study, but probably not THAT quick.
Interesting to me Coach Ty even CONSIDERED using Burks as a PG in a live game. It'll be interesting to see if this experiment continues...

Chilli v wont you tell us all about your playing expierence.

And if anyone can learn to play the point with a little hard work and practice then why dont we just teach Favors or Kanter to do it? I know, I know, Im being ridiculous now. You said it, not me. If we could just teach anybody to play point then why wouldnt we just take the tallest guy to do it, so we would have an advantage? Hmmm. Kaboooom! There goes your stupid argument.

I never said Alec Burks wasnt going to be any good. Im just saying that he wont be playing point guard. Thats all. No need to get your panties in a knot.

I'm sure it would've helped Tinsley get more than 45 minutes as a Jazzman before last night, also.

It's not like Devin Harris committed benchable brain farts on a nearly nightly basis.

Not that he had seriously considered using Tinsley in a live game (~45 minutes in ~20 games before GSW) ...

Coaches need to have more foresight than that (not necessarily for Burks--he would've been better if he had gotten more PT at SG, at least--but yes for your newly signed veteran third-string PG with decent skills). And it's not like Harris didn't provide plenty of motivation to bench his azz in favor of some PT for JT (Tinsley).

I didn't see this game until today and I can't believe there's even a thread on this.

Believe it

No shocker that Richard concocted this thread. Probably in between his Jazzhacks barnburning and throwing down an enchilada.
