We Need to Talk About Kevin

Most experts I read think the Jazz are well run and have a very bright future. One of the brightest even.

We've got youth. We've got salary flexibility. There is a plan in place. We're even taking a risk now and then.

What more do you want from your GM?

To solve the problems.

This season we had a few, I mean:
1. Big Al
2. Raja

But maybe he's not in a hurry. I liked the Okur trade though and just 1 year for Howard.

If Big Al is not traded till or during the next season - I project a lot of frustration here.

It's kind of hard to say what kind of gm he is, because we don't know how much control he had in the Jerry years. He has done alright since Sloan left, but I think top five in the west should be the minimum expectation by the end of 2014. I'm sick of being a slightly above average team.

Good Lord you guys are dense. Seriously, can no one agree that KOC might have a little bit of pressure to perform these next two offseasons?

You might be fighting a losing battle. If you have Cy defending KOC, you have to take a step back and make sure that you are still alive.

Look it up if you care so much. It doesn't change the fact that KOC has done a good job and even better when you consider he deals with a market that is low on FA's wishlist.

Some of you guys are really sensitive on this topic. I've never once advocated he should even be near the chopping block. I think he's been a good GM. I'd put him top 5 in the league, but I would like him to take the next two offseasons to get us home court in the first round.

Top 5 and trending up would be acceptable.

I agree. If we are still fighting for 8th and the youth isn't developing, we might have to look in a different direction.

I disagree. If he's making poor decisions for the Jazz we might have to look in a different direction. There is no need to throw a guy under the bus who is doing his job well just because the team isn't performing to your lofty expectations.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I think that is what he was infering. But yes it depends on why we are in that position.

If this era really fails Tyrone Corbin will be the first one to get "chopped", then the players, then KOC. Right now I think KOC has pretty unlimited job security.

So if favors and kanter don't develop like everyone thinks he shouldn't take any blame? You better be pretty damn sure that it will pan out if you're not going to shop your superstar to see if you can get a better offer.

I agree with this order. BTW CY, I know you were really curious as to how many times we've had home court in the 1st round under KOC, so here you go. KOC came aboard after 99, and in 00 and 01 we were the 2nd and 4th seeds. Since then we have not had homecourt in the first round.

And we still won all but 1 of those match-ups besides the one against the Lakers in the Dwill era.

#1 - It's not his job to develop talent. That's the coaching staff.

#2 - I refuse to judge him based on deals he didn't make. Because we'll NEVER know what deals he had the opportunity to make, only the ones he did. So, No, I'm not going to assume that if he knows that Favors won't pan out that he can just move him to some unsuspecting GM for a guy that will pan out. To me that's not fair, not even a reasonable way to judge him.

#3 - I don't really find making the top 4 in the west to be a reasonable standard either. I'm sure any Joe Shmoe could sell off the Jazz assets and assemble a team that can be top 4 in the West. For a year or two. It's just a matter of mortgaging long term goals for short term ones. Adn I'm not interested in doing that. I'm more interested in the long term success of the team.

It makes me mad thinking about how many times we had to play the Lakers in the playoffs over the last 8 years.

I look forward to the day that we have a really good team that achieves what it's supposed to, as opposed to mediocre teams that occasionally overachieve.

When does the clock start ticking for you? Or maybe a better question, how many times can KOC flip the hourglass and start over?
