Sign-and-Trade Deals for Millsap (should be an off-season priority) -- ideas and rumors

Millsap to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan and Amir Johnson
Not bad, although it create some defensive problems on the wing and offensive problems in the frontcourt. I wouldn't be upset at a move like this.

Use this thread to lay out some realistic sign-and-trade options for Paul Millsap. These would be teams that want him, but don't have the cap to sign him outright. The Jazz would take back a player, a pick or a trade exception.

I'll compile and edit this post as good trade ideas come up.

Best ideas:

Millsap to Memphis for Tony Allen and Ed Davis

Millsap to Portland for Wes Matthews and change

Millsap to NY Knicks for Chris Copeland (sign-and-trade) and ???

Millsap to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan and Amir Johnson

Millsap to Orlando for Aaron Afflalo and/or Maruice Harkless

Millsap to Houston for Terrence Jones and/or Donatas Montiejunas (Houston won't take salary til Howard issue is settled)

DeRozan AND Amir?? HAHAHA....

Maybe for Big Baby, Okafor, JRich, Wison Chandler, Asik (if they get D12), OR... Millsap/Burks for Ryan Anderson/Vasquez

What about Millsap for Granger? I know Indiana is trying to cut some salary, but does the salary still just have to match 75% or has it changed? That would give Millsap around 10M and the Jazz get Granger who I think is a free agent after this year. Not to mention someone besides Williams at the 3. The Jazz have to spend money somehow.

I could see a deal with Granger, but I think a third team would likely have to get involved.

I think the Knicks should be willing to take Millsap. Amare needs his minutes limited and Bargnani is better coming off the bench. The Knicks rolled with Kenyon Martin late last season.

I'm still curious about Sap's sour attitude towards the Jazz. Yesterday on sports radio, they were talking about how reporters who deal with the team on a daily basis could tell that Sap mentally "moved on" from Utah as early as mid season. It's baffling to me.

Alll Utah did was:

-Give him his 1st shot in the NBA
-Give him playing time when he earned it as a rookie
-Turned him into an exclusive starter as soon as Boozer left
-Matched a pretty nice offer sheet from Portland
-Kept him as the starter even though it was clear that Favors needed to be in his place in order to grow

Don't get me wrong, it's time for the Jazz and Sap to part ways for a multitude of reasons. However, I've got a little resentment towards the guy. He seems to have some sort of attitude towards the Jazz orginization when in fact, he should be spewing grattitude.

There was some vitriol spewed by his agents when the Portland offer was tendered. They felt disrespected and urged the Jazz not to match. I think had Paul had experienced agents instead of his uncle and attorney friend, they could have told him that's the way the NBA works, Instead, he took it as a personal affront that the Jazz didn't step up with a contract on Day 1 but let him shop around. I think he did quit on the team, but I really don't hold that against him. Corbin's reliance on the inside game of Jefferson and the chucking of Foye made the remaining players superfluous.

Jazz were correct in predicting a bad summer for FA. Even the Market for undersized, never all-star, doesn't shoot the 3pts, but demands to start pfs is drying up.

Who could have seen this coming?

====================================

I don't see Houston being interested. They are going to be Dwight (or Askik) and 4 3pt shooters. Milsap doesn't fit.

Portland was looking big not small. Splitter and Zaza were early rumours.

Atlanta wants to move Horford to the pf, so acquiring another pf doesn't help, but maybe because Milsap had some good games against them.

Milwaukee--has a bunch of young pfs and might be in the midst of tanking.

AS for sign and trades, I say why? Just keep cap space until the deadline. I don't look at it as a failure to get "something" for Paul or Al. Lindsey/KOC got exactly what they wanted...cap space to offer when teams desperately want to avoid the luxury tax. Now is not the time to use it up, unless a great starter could be had. And I don't see that happening via a S&T.

Keep an eye on the Warriors. They want to acquire a free agent via sign-and-trade and may soon coming calling about Millsap.

Why don't the Warriors just keep Landry?

I read that Landrey is getting mid level offers and that might be all the Market bears for Milsap.

If so, the Jazz missed their chance.

The Warriors are going after Howard (long shot). They are asking about Josh Smith, but are getting rebuffed since they don't have cap space and would need to work a sign-and-trade. The Warriors like Millsap, but I'm not sure how far out of their way they'd go for him, or what the Jazz would get back in a deal....

Maybe Brandon Rush?

They will most definitely want to be sending out more salary, that's why Lee is getting shopped. They are a tax payer as of now and you don't want be a tax payer from here on out.

Jazz could help out here by taking back salary and Harrison Barnes or Klay Thompson. Would want Bogut for filler. I want no part of Lee or his contract.

This is exactly how the Jazz should use their salary cap space. Take on an ugly number (Bogut) a young potential star (Barnes or Thompson) and offer a team the flexibility to make a move for themselves. If a pick has to be added, make it after 2014 and protect it for a couple of years. Adding a kid like Barnes (who is the player that I'd target in this deal) would be well worth the effort. One year of Bogut as a defensive big is a small price to pay to facilitate that.

Agree on the fact that they should back out if Lee's contract gets added to the deal. Avoid any long-term contracts and focus on the young guys.
