What's new

lets make a pick

between now and the draft. everybody predict who the jazz will draft with there first pick and sees who is right. i say monroe

Monroe supposedly will go before 9. I think it will be that big white boy from Kansas who is missing a front tooth and will be a great 12th man for our bench. I think his name is Cole Aldrich.

Luke Babbitt.
I think the Jazz are looking forward to mid-season, when AK's expiring can possibly be dealt. Until then, Kirilenko will get some burn at backup PF. That was the plan before Boozer opted in last summer and the reason the Jazz had Andrei "bulk up."

Jazz have to give up on the plan to compete head-to-head with Bynum, Odom and Gasol. We'll never have three bigs that good. Boston proved in Game 2 that you can beat them if you have good shooters. If any of the Celtics could have more than 1 good game, this series would be tilting in favor of Boston. I'm warming to the idea of having Babbitt, MAtthews and CJ at the wings. All those guys are capable of lighting it up from outside.

I know that still leaves a hole at the 5. But unless the Jazz could trade up for Cousins, I just don't see Aldrich, Udoh or Monroe having a huge impact inside. And Whiteside is YEARS away (if ever) from being able to contribute. Better to use AK's expiring (with the Memphis pick to add if needed) at the deadline.

Jazz trade back and take Babbit and the big Sarafin from france. In a couple years we will wish they had taken G Hayward, Paul George or Aldrich.

No one is going to have a "huge" impact at #9.
It's still too early to give up on Aldrich or Udoh though as defensive NBA players.

I bet Babbitt, Udoh, and Aldrich all have the same sort of impact in the NBA. Average to good.
So why not take a defensive center whose impact on the game is where we need it most?

Agreed with all this. Although I would rather have G Hayward than Babbit. Babbit is not a bad pick though.

I remember Udoh as being a pretty good defensive player. However, David Locke recently compared him to Antwain Jamison. Nothing about Antwain screams defense to me. I'm not a fan at all of Locke, so I guess I'm just assuming this is more hot air from Locke?

It isn't the worst comparison but isn't very good either. Udoh doesn't move his feet very well or play tough position D. He mostly just goes for the block.

Babbit

GlassEater has it correct.

It seems the top 5 are fixed and then Monroe and Aldrich could be taken 6-8, so the Jazz are left with Davis, Udoh, and from what i just viewed/read, NOT whitesides. so it is a matter of BPA. That is Babbit. I think Babbit would be a great 'come off the curl' shooter, so his stock is higher with the Jazz than others. So i'm buying into the "Jazz like Babbit" stories...

I think they'll pick Babbit or Whiteside. Babbit because he can swing between the forward positions like AK, and Whiteside because he can swing between the PF and C. Both players can create mismatches on offense and work within the team defensive concept. They have to be really high on Babbit as a potential crunch-time performer (like literally our version of Carmelo Anthony) to pass up a big in this draft. Of the two, I actually think they would go with Whiteside because it makes sense for the Jazz to have a Cliff Robinson-type player on the team.

No way they go conservative with their first and last lotto pick in several years and draft Udoh or Aldrich. Paul George is a sleeper pick because he would start over Matthews, and he has All-Star potential as a SG. He's the best SG they've had a chance to draft in a long time. If the Jazz pick George, it likely means they expect to bring in Tomic as an impact player in a year, or otherwise resolve their need for athletic length. Ed Davis is a sleepy sleeper pick.

I'd also say there is a 40% chance they have a trade in the works to move AK in order to free up some free agent money as well.

...you know, I've seen some bad hoppers in my time, guys loaded with jailhouse tats, and looks that could kill. But the picture of this white southern hick ranks right up there with the worse trash I've ever seen! I think the mods should ban something like that from the board! The only think worse than the gulf oil catastrophe....is the possibility of this guy reproducing!

He needs to reproduce. We need someone to clean up after circus animals, wash cars, and try to sell you retro 70's RVs.
