Hayward getting extension???

An honest-to-goodness consensus should mean something, shouldn't it? But then again, maybe this is Hayward's camp leaking stuff to, umm, try to raise his value (even though it might be lowering it).

Hayward has been pretty good, but I still don't think he's that leader some think he is.

I believe both Hayward, and Favors are going to really look good at times this year. I just hope they can become consistent for us game to game.

Hay is an ideal 3rd option guy on a championship team at very best.

We HAVE to save the 5 year max for Kanter or our 14' pick.

really, did you saw the okc game? as for me, kanter looked like poor's man kyrylo fesenko

if kanter wants the max he must dominate guys like hibbert and cousins right?

Furthermore, if Hayward is worth that kind of money, what is the practical downside to having him ****ING EARN IT ON THE COURT? He hasn't, maybe he will/would, but he hasn't. You negotiate an early deal when they've obviously earned it or when you think you're getting a discount. If you own agency rights and think a player is worth the max, THEN YOU HOLD OUT AND IF YOU HAVE TO MATCH A DEAL WITH SMALLER RAISES THEN YOU ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY by holding out.

So you think you shouldn't extend max players like Durant, Rose and George after year 3? These kind of players have to get extended. You don't want them in any way disgruntled. They sell out your arena for a decade alone and get you more national TV appearances which in turn increases advertising revenues.

Good point. Rep'd.

I brought the same point in my opening statement about Favors's extension.
And you don't have to save 5 years for Kanter. If 5 years is gone you give him a 3 yr player option so he can start his new contract at 30% of salary cap if he indeed is worth the max. If you stayed so long with your franchise and maintain bird rights you don't usually opt out after year 10 to get the 35% cap max deals but you take extensions starting at 105% of last year's salary + 7.5 % raises. That's how Kobe's salary escalated in the $30M/yr region.

I wanted to compare other wing player to Gordon here at first, but decided my stuff was way to good and deserves to be seen by everyone in its own thread :D

No point in giving him the Max deal now. Need to save a little if you sign early. Good for the player in case of injury or a bad season. Just wait until they hit rfa if you are going to pay close to Max deal, cause you can always match.

To all the people comparing a rumored 5-year extension to the AK deal: Remember that AK actually looked like a player that was a potential perennial all-star and made the all-star team the season before he got that deal.

Our own Tatermoog ran around here for months demanding that we "pay AK!"

Hayward isn't particularly close to even that level of achievement yet. To the extent that he or his camp are using Paul George as a baseline for anything, they need to realize that there is virtually no evidence that Hayward is going to put up Paul George like numbers and it is highly debatable whether Paul George is a max-level player either.

If you feel as most on this board that Favors contract is justified by his defense alone, George's is as well. George has more size than Favors(not bulk) and he's a top10 defender in the league already. Plus he's playing the same conference as LeBron James, so he can be really instrumental in dethroning the King once in a while for at least another half decade. He has three chances to meet the Derrick Rose provision that would push his contract to the $90M/5 range instead of $80M/5. I feel like he's worth somewhere between the two, for not being a top25 offense threats right now. But the combination being a very strong two way player who guards the opponents best player every night really adds value.
The other night late in the game George took Rose 1v1 very successfully. His quickness and length forced a bad turnover. I expect to see that every night from him in crunchtime. With George Hill(6'3) and Stephenson(6'6) they have two players who can also guard multiple positions allowing George to wreck havoc defensively on whoever he wants to handling the ball.

I hope you mean for his position and not overall size. And even for his position alone I'm not so certain.

Do teams not realize that restricted free agency is a thing and acts to dramatically lower prices on players?
Nick Batum...although he performed roughly on Hayward's level and ended up getting $11mm per (iirc could have been locked up for ~$10mm per in an extension). Maybe Dennis Lindsay's a complete ****ing moron. He hasn't made a single move that was even close to being a slam dunk.

Not trading Millsap/Jefferson
Letting those guys go for nothing
The GS trade (which some really didn't like)
The Favors extension
Gordo's extension (if these rumors are accurate)

Are Favors/Hayward represented by Lebron's agent? Could we be putting in early work to get a big name free agent next summer? What the ****?

Maybe I become a full-fledged hockey fan this season. The Sharks are looking really good.

It's well documented that George has grown several inches sionce being drafted like Durant. George is at least 6'10 in shoes. Same as Durant is at least 6'11. He's at least taller than Howard who's 6'11 in shoes.

You're a tard! :D Lindsey is mostly doing phenomenal work when you think big picture championship.

By acquiring a couple late first round picks from Golden State and overpaying for role players? What else has he done?

Yeah I remember the same thing being said about Kirilenko. And Garnett. And Olajuwon. Players always seem to grow when they come to the NBA and the after they retire they tend to shrink. Like Barkley and like Olajuwon. If Paul George and Durant have grown why assume Favs hasn't and neither has Howard?

I don't understand where more 'lucrative than Favors' became 'he's getting max'. Still an absurd overpay duh but I think we invented this max worry

There's pictures and videos that clearly prove my point. nuff said
