Backup Plan for Hayward

First, I don't know too much about the Jazz salary cap situation so this is all an idea in my head and you all can tell me if it works.

Assume Hornets/Celtics offer GH the max. We decline and he moves on.

My idea is...

Sign Greg Monroe to a deal worth close to/if not the max.
Sign PJ Tucker (avg 9pts and 6rbs) to a 4 yr. 20mil deal. He young & plays D and hits the corner 3 ball.
Sign Jameer Nelson on the CHEAP as another ball handler

Burke/Nelson
Exum/Burks
Tucker/Hood
Favors/Kanter
Monroe/Gobert

Thoughts?? Would this even work money wise?

You'll run out of money once it comes time to re-sign Burks, Kanter and then Burke and Gobert.
Don't need to be 2-deep at every position if guys can play multiple spots. Simply no need for Jameer with Exum playing 1/2 his time at PG and 1/2 at SG.
Monroe is more of a PF and he's very weak defensively.

the jazz don't sign players they want, they sign players that other teams dump to clear their cap space

No thanks, I see ten times more potential in Favors and Kanter than I see in Monroe. Monroe is going to want at least 60/5 contract similar to what was given to Marcin Gortat, we don't need that he is not even good enough to warrant a contract like that. Decent offensive weapon but a liability on the other end.

Not entirely true. Back in June, Lindsey said we could give Hayward a significant raise and still have a max contract spot available if we were to find that guy and he wanted to sign with the team. I'm sure Dennis would be thrilled to sign Lebron or Carmelo. But that ain't happening. So nothing wrong with utilizing the space to get additional assets. It beats having buyer's remorse one year later. Have to laugh at the Cavs wanting to dump Jack, the Knicks looking to shed Bargnani, etc.

As usual during the summer, I want to trade the entire team. Hayward for MKG, Favors and Kanter for Hibbert, Trey and picks for Rondo, Sign Lance and Parsons. Outside Parsons, that's a defensive juggernaut.

IMO, the plan for Hayward is to try to sign him outright and have control over the contract structure. The backup plan for Hayward is to match his offer sheet and just live with the contract structure that someone else negotiates for them.

I really like this plan, but idk if Monroe would be open to signing an offer sheet with the Jazz and the same goes for Nelson but for another reason to play for a contender.

Jameer Nelson is going to a contender. We don't want him anyways. The rotation is set with the guards with Trey, Alec and Exum.

Greg Monroe is going to demand much more money then we can get Kanter for this summer. If he resigns.

Rather balance the team out. Then go all in with players.

This. Extend Burks and Kanter this summer if possible, and then see how the players respond to Quin Snyder. You use the whole season as a year to learn the system and gain experience, then figure out how the pieces fit together moving forward.

I have a hard time seeing them play as poorly as they did this past year under a lame-duck head coach, which should increase the value on most of your assets if you want to make a move to add an All-Star at the trade deadline or next offseason.

Keepin burks, good choice

Alec Burks and Enes Kanter and their agents will be watching what the Jazz offer any FAs. If the jazz try offering Monroe they could end up losing out on Monroe and Kanter. In this high stakes game Lindsey has to think a few moves ahead.

trade with Clips for Jared Dudley
Sign Jameer Nelson
Offer Chandler Parsons $40m/4 years

I understand that DL has a plan. I understand he said they will not skip steps. I understand why we took on the contracts like Richard Jefferson, Biedrens, Rush, Novack. What I don't know, is when are we going to push on the gas and get aggressive and go after free agents again? Me Want PARSONS!
