Annual Beginning-of-Off-Season Reminder: Don’t Believe a Word Ainge says

The Jazz aren't in a place where they are ready to trade for a star. They've just torn down and don't have enough of a team or identity in place to support a star. They've got mostly youth and some odd-fitting pieces. If a star became available, a lot of work would need to be done to fill out...

Some decent takes in this, imo. I'd have Cody Williams several spots higher, but I'm betting on his pre-draft process. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu57qLnNv-8

Buzelis is probably this year's "canned soup" prospect. He can process, make reads and move the ball at NBA speed.

Best Playoff Outcomes for Jazz Trades

The Hawks could make all kinds of moves to fashion a team that Snyder prefers. As it is, they're likely going to trade Capela in the final year of his deal. They're probably going to trade either Dejounte or Young, depending on the offers they get. Hunter and Bey could possibly be had if the...

Best Playoff Outcomes for Jazz Trades

The Pels are a tax team who will likely make moves if they don't make a real run this year. The rumor as early as last fall was that they might be willing to move Brandon Ingram. Ingram, if he stays healthy, is potentially the type of versatile big guard the Jazz currently lack. (No disrespect...

Holland can be a real defensive playmaker. Buzelis is more positional, but Buzelis really tries and he used his length to contain guys pretty well. Buzelis is too soft/weak to guard bigs, but his ability to keep up on the perimeter makes him viable.

LaMelo Ball was also a worrisome shooter in the NBL, but teams believed in his touch based on what he showed in HS.

Jaden Hardy was a miserable shooter in the Gleague. It's one of the reasons he really slipped in the draft. His FT% (88%) was a strong signal, however. It's just a big adjustment for teenagers to step out to the NBA line and get shots off at NBA speed. It's one of the reasons why Gleague isn't...

He'll guard 4s and he'll switch a bit on the perimeter. He's not anywhere near the defender that Smith and Hendricks are. I don't think that makes him a tweener per se, just a limited defender.

He needs a good Combine and Pre-draft, but yeah, he's super young, he's one of the best functional athletes in the draft (if not the best), and his ceiling is very high. He also put up numbers in the Gleague even if the efficiency was poor--19 pts, 7 rebs., 3+ stocks.

The bigger problem with Castle isn't that his shooting percentages were low. It's that he passed up open shots and drove into traffic repeatedly. He didn't want to shoot. That suggests he's got further to go in his development, especially as a guard.

He's a knock-down shooter at the 4. Offensively, he's in the same league as Jabari Smith, imo. The question is what else is he willing to do. I don't think he'd be as high a priority for the Jazz with the way Hendricks started fitting in this year. The Jazz desperately need on-ball creation. And...

Holland was considered a top 5 guy coming into the season. He needs to show shooting touch in his workouts and understand that he's going to be operating with a more limited shot diet. He played pretty loose at Ignite. He's not going to take those shots or make decisions with the ball like he...

GMs aren't going to tell Jonathan Givony what their draft board looks like. You heard from Danny Ainge yesterday how cagey and dismissive he was when he as asked about the draft. Projecting the draft also requires an actual draft order and workout feedback, and not just insecure twitter jockeys...

At the least, ESPN needs to keep a good relationship with agents so those agents will give ESPN scoops.

I think this strategy would apply to a later pick. Not our top pick. If the Jazz are drafting in the 20s and have an opportunity to draft someone like Ware, Missi, Chomche (if they believe in him), etc., then that would be on strategy due to positional need. But I agree with you that they won't...

I think these mocks can suffer from misinformation coming from scouts/GMs and possibly even some pressure from agents in some cases. I think Holland is going to get drafted safely inside the top 10.

I don't think Risacher is actually going to go #1. I think it will be Sarr or maybe Topic if the team in question needs a lead guard.
