Other Teams’ 1st Round Picks Owed to Jazz Watch

Crappy picks we own. Pleasure ours will not be.

Jazz and Bulls are in active trade discussions regarding Zach LaVine

Keyonte needs to become a phenomenal scorer to compensate for his atrocious defense. I have not seen any signs that he can be phenomenal. He has a much clearer path to become a decent scorer with bad defense, i.e. a younger Clarkson. And a younger Clarkson would be a bench player on a playoff team.

Jazz and Bulls are in active trade discussions regarding Zach LaVine

That would be a very Jazz thing: they are perennially in love with no-defense guards and wings and want to collect them all. Hardy and Ainge worked hard to create the worst defensive team in the league and they are determined to defend this title and produce the worst-defense dynasty.

    Evaluating and developing young players

I think we are going in circles here.

    Evaluating and developing young players

Again, I specifically said that "I am talking about really young, raw players." Lauri and Sexton are not those players. And, anyway, the Jazz have not developed Lauri: he played like a star from his very first game as a Jazzman. Do you think that the Jazz magically developed him during one...

    Evaluating and developing young players

I don't know, man, Lauri and Sexton were already well-known players and both of them have been in the league for a while. They did improve but that was improvement on top of a solid foundation. I am talking about really young, raw players. It just feels to me that we kind of wasted a year of...

    Evaluating and developing young players

Is the current Jazz front office bad at it? I remember how two years ago the rebuild started and we were excited to see how several young players who the Jazz just got will develop: Agbaji, Kessler, THT, Vanderbilt, NAW. And now all of them were let go and Kessler is very likely seem to be on...

    Off-Season Rumblings

I could never understand the never-ending obsession of the Jazz GMs and fans with guards who are bad on defense. Is it some kind of collect-them-all quest? Because the Jazz did acquire them in all kinds of flavors. Too short to play defense (Burke, Sexton, Neto), too short and old to play...

Which name do you prefer for our team?

No single thing will fix it. But you need to try many small things that move you in the right direction. Distinct new uniforms, a new name, new team representatives... The Jazz have no former players who are in the news, or on TV. Like Reggie Miller, Dwayne Wade or JJ Redick. Even kicking Boler...

Which name do you prefer for our team?

People on this site are so.... I tell them that that the Jazz have an awkward, nonsensical name plus the bad image problem and that the time is ripe for the complete rebranding. They do not argue with the facts but instead want to know who and how old I am. Folks, you talk a lot about the draft...

Which name do you prefer for our team?

They do get excited about the Celtics in Boston because the name became synonymous with the basketball success. And that's true for many other names like the Lakers. The only association that the general basketball crowd has with the Jazz is the decades of failure and the pedophile as their...

Which name do you prefer for our team?

People still listen to opera too, all of those three old guys in New York and San Francisco. So what? How many of the under 30 crowd listen to jazz? 1%? Jazz is part of an old geezer generation even in the USA and it is even worse in other countries. It is something the overwhelming majority of...

Which name do you prefer for our team?

There are so many good names that sound great and can look on the uniforms. The Utah Tigers... Lions...Panthers...Orcas...Owls...Spiders. Any of them is better than the music that was popular 100 years ago in a far away city. Even the Utah Square Dance somehow sounds more meaningful.

Which name do you prefer for our team?

It's just a name and a rather silly one. Nobody really listens to jazz anymore, it has nothing to do with basketball, sport or any idea of competition. This name is hard to graphically represent on the uniforms and merchandize, it is awkward to call the players "jazzmen". Compare it to the...

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Jrue and Keyonte are two totally different players except for their height (and even there George is appreciably shorter). It makes zero sense to discuss them as if the absence of a drastic difference in height and length makes them comparable.

The development of what Jazz players are you going to watch in 2024-25?

Kessler could learn a lot from a good veteran center, even if this center is beyond his prime. Someone like Adams, Horford, DeAndre. Or even from a recently retired center hired by the Jazz as an assistant coach. I think it may really pay off.

Would you draft Buzelis at 10?

He looks like a guy who will need a lot of playing time to develop. How is he going to get it when the Jazz have Markkanen, Sensabaugh and Hendricks?

Would You Draft Topic at 10?

Of course we need Topic. Playing guards who are bad at defense has been a very important part of the the Utah Jazz core identity for a long time. Now there is a real risk that we may lose Clarkson and a competent defensive player may somehow sneak into our rotation. Drafting Topic would ensure...

    Rebrand?

They chose and positioned the players very deliberately. Markkanen wears 23 and Kessler - 24, which means that they represent the current Jazz, circa 2023-24. And Keyonte with Hendricks form 30: they are our future and will win the NBA championship in 2030. Also, the picture is taken against...

The development of what Jazz players are you going to watch in 2024-25?

Nobody really cares much about Juzang, eh? The dude put in work, never complains, always ready and plays hard. He is our current Royce but nobody really cares.
