I lean towards earning being good as long as you're not being insane about it. Certainly don't think we're there yet.

When we had a bunch of glue vets the last couple of years we didn't look so bad, but wow replace them with even kinda promising young guys and when the wheels fall off it gets ugly. Looks like a year with a lot of disastrous 5-7 minute stretches to me.

The bench lineups just look awful. Maybe Collier being back will help. Mills looks like whatever the reverse of two years away from being two years away is.

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Spurs look awful. Wemby can do some wild things, but it doesn't look like they have any sort of a plan for utilizing him effectively.

    Are the Jazz Not Bad?

Yep - soooooo much riding on losing a few times to SA early.

Game Thread Oct 12, 2024 06:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ San Antonio Spurs (Preseason)

Jazz looked decent for stretches - kind of game that makes me think if we can unload one of the JCs we might be able to lose 55+.

    Jazz Sign Patty Mills

It could, or it could mean that they're 100% sure he has no offers from teams trying to win and they're just preserving any and all flexibility as long as possible again like they've done a couple of other times this offseason.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

I'd guess that until Lauri extends they're better off just doing nothing. Opportunity cost of waiting to sign flip and Eubanks seems to be zero. Some opportunity cost to saying no to salary dumps until after the sixth, but probably less than messing up even a very slim chance of a Lauri deal...

    Conspiracy Theory Corner

Main issue with BI is the extension. If they had something in place that was relatively team friendly I'd be on board.

Salt Lake City Summer League, July 8-10

Pretty decent watchable half of basketball. Nice!

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

Idk, from Lauri's POV I'd imagine this is all pretty flattering. You're either going to make a boatload of money playing for the jazz, including a huge raise this year, and been told that you're more valuable than 3 picks, 3 swaps, and a young guy, or you'll be traded to a team that believes...

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

I'm happy enough to trade Lauri if the return is great, but otherwise I'm much more interested in subtracting the more replaceable pieces to lose this year.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

Makes me wonder - what are previous examples of super swaps being traded? I would be extremely hesitant to hand those out if I were trading with the jazz.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

The certainty of 25 to 21 or w/e also makes it a ton more valuable. It probably would have cost us 32 to move up four to five picks. And that's the floor.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

All your firsts and swaps feels like it gets anyone awfully close.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

Basically reduces a lot of the variance of the swap, that normally benefits the team trading them.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

It doesn't always help the jazz that much, but it does make this kind of deal a lot more costly for whoever trades with us. Being locked into back end of the first round alternating with no pick at all for six or seven years is going to make it TOUGH to add talent.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

Think of how dumb the average person is, now imagine half of jazz Twitter is much dumber than that.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

I'd feel a lot better about our ability to tank if we could shed Kessler and Sexton.

    Does Lauri Get Traded?

I would vastly prefer getting Moody and more picks. Kuminga seems so likely to either turn into dust or bait us into overpaying.
