Uh...did you read the post you quoted?

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Not that I disagree; can only sorta find that in Larry Coon's CBA FAQ. Do you have a link?

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Right. That doesn't answer the question though. Are the Jazz able to trade Favors between noon and midnight on the 6th to a team that immediately waives him before his contract is guaranteed? That is, do the Jazz have to make a decision on Favors before or after free agency starts?

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

At least a couple reasons that doesn't work: - You can't trade an exception. - The Jazz have to send out $39.2m to take in $49m. Exum and Ingles make $21.6. I don't see Indiana paying Ricky $17.6m. Favors would have to be included somehow. - Why swap Ingles and Bogdonavic? I'd guess both teams...

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Quoting myself... For Indiana: Holiday + Johnson + Sumner = $5,244,283 in non-guaranteed and expiring contracts. Salary Indiana can receive in a trade for those three: $9,277,495.25. Looks like a good number for Rubio. Why would they voluntarily lose the MLE when they can do something like this?

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Favors guarantee date is July 6; free agency opens at noon on July 6. Is the guarantee by EOD July 6? If so, the Jazz may be able to work something out.

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Trade hasn't gone through yet. Strong indication Rubio is headed to Indiana, but they'll have to get rid of Thad or Bojan (along with their other FAs) to make it happen (they have ~3mil in non-guaranteed contracts they can drop as well). The idea is to add Rubio to the Memphis trade, and...

    Rubio S&T?

Sources: Bobby Portis significantly interested in Utah

Absolutely. This requires a team that can absorb Rubio and/or has a piece Memphis wants, and a team that wants Exum (if not Philly). I didn't get involved in the in-season conversations about whether it was better to make a trade in-season or wait for free agency, but I thought it was pretty...

Conley Trade with Rubio S&T (potentially with a third team) Mike Conley's 2019/20 salary: $32,511,623 Jazz salary required in trade: (Conley's Salary - $100k)*.8 = $25,929,298.40 Korver: $7,500,000 Crowder: $7,815,533 Allen: $2,429,400 Rubio minimum starting salary for S&T: $8,184,365.40 S&T...

I think it's still possible for the Jazz to find a third team in the Conley deal that's interested in a Rubio S&T. Jazz would retain the full MLE, and be able to use Favors and/or Exum in trades. That's the path to getting Harris (S&T) and Portis/Mirotic (MLE). Not likely, but possible.

Do Jazz get room exception or MLE?

Sorry for repeating content from the other thread: This trade is agreed to in principle. If the Jazz and Grizzlies can find a third team interested in a Rubio S&T, with Memphis acquiring an additional asset, perhaps the Jazz can retain the full MLE.

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

What teams have the space, and would be interested in claiming Favs?

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

If the package was the same, fair enough. What additional piece from the Jazz would have made the trade worthwhile at the deadline--in order for the Jazz to keep the full MLE? A collection of 2nds, and Bradley/Neto? That stuff probably doesn't move the needle for Memphis. Similar topic: This...

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

Why do the Jazz need to waive him? They can just decline his option--in which case, he doesn't have to clear waivers. What am I missing?

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

One paragraph up from the quoted: If you use cap space--as the Jazz are to acquire Conley--you lose the full MLE and BAE.

    Yes and yes (I think).

    Conley Officially a Jazzman

Jazz give up an additional first (maybe) in a double cohort year, and lose their full MLE this season to save Ricky Rubio the inconvenience of moving to Memphis mid-season. Really poor asset management.
