Like if the Jazz really did want space next summer... you could start Walker at 20M, give max raises, and give him a PO for year 5. Would work out to 4/90 or 5/117M and he gets the added benefit of the 27M PO if things don't work out... or gets on the market earlier and really cashes in.
If...
Right. I did hear from someone on X that said they heard at one point that they wanted north of 5/150M.
So I think it could have gone like this:
Walker - Lets talk extension.
Jazz - We gotta keep cap space but we will do 15M.
Walker - death stare
Jazz - silence
Walker - How about 35M then...
I quoted a convo from Locke. I think its logical to think the negotiations were like 15-35M to start then would move to a more reasonable 20-30M range. Walker didn't hold out though. Jazz just said "we gotta preserve our precious cap space, so $20M or nah? We will get you 28-30M next summer for...
I think just like Daniels he wanted 5/150 but settled in on 4/100. We exited the negotiation table before the waters arrived though.
The good news is once the Eason extension is done we will no doubt have the number 1 RFA next summer. We read the landscape brilliantly.
We want them to keep most of the wheels on this season and fall off next season. I think the pg issue is the issue they will deal with though. Seem to have found some decent wing prospects.
Yeah they wouldn't be my first pick of teams I'd want to own picks from but they are so Cade dependent and he's had health issues so who knows. I don't know if we'd take it but my guess would be Ivey, Harris, 2 firsts and 2 swaps (maybe super swap variations). I think they have a pile of seconds...
Walker is good at the big man things. If he had a real pg I think the scoring would go up quite a bit. If he improves as a passer and FT shooter... I think top 10 center is within reach. I think we have an opportunity to pay him like a top 20ish center on a team friendly construction and totally...
I think Detroit also has better reason for reservations on a non-stretch big. Cade isn't like a deadeye shooter... Ausar is a non-shooter... Holland struggles there too. If all their building blocks range from complete non-shooter to okayish... its tough to build that way.
I could see Detroit...
It may or may not be right but I get the feeling he is kind of a cat chasing a laser pointer. Offensive oriented bigs who can't shoot have to be like Sabonis, Sengun good to get the big $$$$
Yeah... I think because he doesn't stretch the floor and doesn't anchor a defense some of the Pistons fans are luke warm or cold on him. I think 15-20M per would be the range that is fair for him and he's likely got much bigger eyes.
The Sharpe extension is getting the NBA twitter approval but... like... is he good? Its one I could see going either way. The shooting has been great and he's not a defender even though you'd think he has the attributes to be one.
He kinda sucks. Like if you listen to Pistons fans talk about him he is pretty empty calories. He has some interesting things but the defense isn't really good. Like I think Walker is quite a bit better.
I think the Jazz didn't negotiate and didn't really make an offer in good faith. Like I think they made an offer to simply say they made an offer and then walked away. The cap space is only one of the reasons. They aren't sure on Walker is ummm... my theory. My guess is simply... the Jazz would...
Sharpe and Camara extended today. Eason likely extends now that the KD extension is in.
So let’s talk about that cap space we gonna have next year and how Walker might be the best RFA left on the board. Big brain stuff.
