Get this, having fun is addictive.

Get this, being a self-loathing douche is also habit forming.

Marijuana can be over-used and used in the wrong settings, just like almost every plant on earth. IMO, I think everybody should use it in some fashion, even if extraordinarily rarely.

    As for other drugs:
I recommend shrooms at least once, but don't be one of those dudes that trips all the damn time. It is a poison. But try it on a camp trip. Fun.

Definitely try MDMA once with someone you love and in the right non-judgmental dancing/musical environment. Amazing time. Also be sure to clear your calendar for the following two days and just be with him/her during the come down (which can be a bitch). Don't make a habit out of this either, but try it once. There is a whole genre of music you'll have different access to.

Stay away from opiates and amphetamines.

None of this is a good idea if you are alone and depressed or in the company of wreckless douches. You can't separate drug use from the quality of your character and company. Don't fool yourself.
I get what you're saying here, I really do. I also believe you're being completely sincere.
Having said that, I think this post is ridiculously reckless and irresponsible. To actually recommend certain drugs in such a wholesale, blanketly-stated, manner is troublesome to me.
I have seen people recreationally use certain drugs and do just fine with the occasional entertainment value. I have also seen people that simply lack whatever discipline is necessary to keep things recreational.

I feel I am strong enough mentally to never abuse drugs, however, having watched my own dad lack the discipline to keep things reasonable, I decided to never even try certain things (cocaine, acid, etc). He got consumed by it .. not like a junkie or anything, but he abused them recreationally and I KNOW it negatively impacted his life. He twice beat all of it just to have someone recklessly tell him to just do it one more time and don't do it again ... didn't work that way for him.
    space
I'm not saying no one should do drugs. I am saying that it sickens me to hear you suggest that 'everyone' should try it at least once. Problem is, you're only speaking to those who haven't yet tried it at least once. Those that are 'strong' enough to not get caught up in it will be fine, but will likely have already made up their minds to refrain and will not be persuaded by your advice. The person that is likely to give it a roll, that hasn't before, based on such a reckless suggestion, is also more likely to the person that lacks the fortitude to keep it low key.
    space
I'm not attacking you, promise. As I said earlier, I understand the context and don't believe you mean any harm, whatsoever. I realize this is just a Jazz forum and no one is likely to run out to the street corner for drugs to try, just once. I still had to speak my mind.

Notice the last paragraph you quoted.

I also believe drugs should be mediated by shaman-like people who know and respect a drug's power.

I don't support douches doing drugs with other douches.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I'm guessing he had a lot more going on than the mere ingestion of drugs. But, I stand by what I said; certain drugs can teach you something about yourself if you have the power and the right milieu.

Thanks for the respectful reply. Glad to see you didn't take it as an attack.
My dad was awesome. Everyone loved him and being around him. He was very bright, successful, incredibly charismatic, and doted on his family. He wasn't the product of the wrong crowd or anything like that .. it just seemed to effect him differently and his highly addictive personality. I'm glad he died being the crazy dude he was, though, and not by cancer or something. Very glad about that.

Maybe it wasn't respectful enough, actually. I didn't mean to imply one negative thing about your dad. Please note.

There is a dangerous side to this stuff, for sure. Recognizing the power you ingest and therefore yield is an important part in deciding when and how to use. And, an important part of feeling your way thru healing effects.

Crazy fun dudes (and I've known many) can be rough with these subtleties. But what would we do without them?

Yes, I do, and it's not really a secret around here.

And now it's legal (at least by the state) here, yay.

    LOL.

I didn't take anything offensively, whatsoever, from what you said. I just provided further explanation so that people understand you can't necessarily 'spot' a guy that would abuse drugs. My dad didn't look like a guy that couldn't handle it.. that's all I was saying.

We are talking about weed, right?
Don't be a D.A.R.E generation knobface and refuse to have an adult conversation about what each individual drug actually is. Look into blood-brain toxicity and other issues and get back to me about what kind of person becomes addicted (i.e. can't emotionally and/or physically function) to weed.

Other drugs are different. For example after one use of Oxycodon and cocaine I felt a specific craving that stuck in my head for a bit. That took A LITTLE self control.

    Nice take.

Marijuana can be psychologically addictive, like just about anything else (video games, porn, sports, gambling, taking badass ****s), but does not create a physical dependency (unlike more demonized [and deserving of that stigma] drugs), which can't actually be said of alcohol and prescription drugs of abuse.

I think it's lunacy that it's not legalized and regulated in a manner similar to alcohol.

How is weed different from virtually every other mind altering drug out there? I don't get it, especially since I've known plenty of people addicted to it who made these exact same claims.
