    Millsap - Afflalo trade

I posted this in a thread a week+ ago, but the thread was fizzling out, so it didn't generate enough discussion. Now, I know the forum opinion on Millsap is at an all-time low, but put you big-boy pants on, realize he's our most skilled player at all facets, and then evaluate this idea. If you're a Millsap hater, perhaps you might decide not to participate.

Who here would deal Millsap + a lottery-protected first + a second rounder for Afflalo? How realistic is this?

This helps the Magic rebuild, and we move Millsap for a player entering his prime, locked into a reasonable contract.

    Hayward-Burks-Afflalo is a pretty nice.

No. And I've always loved AA. Very well-rounded. That's simply too much for a guy who is probably just a 4th option on a title team.

    This.

Millsap for Afflalo straight up should be more than enough. If not then a 2nd would maybe be acceptable. But no way is AA worth Millsap and a 1st. And I'm not exactly Millsap's biggest fan.
Playoffs here we come. Pass the damn Kool-Aid

Not to mention this isn't happening. Why would they trade him for a guy who isn't playing well? For a guy who would simply take time away from a young frontline in Vucevic, Nicholson, and Harkless.

Now, Burks and Millsap may work but I doubt they would even do that. It just doesn't make sense based on how their roster is constructed.

    1. I started the offer high.

    2. No way the Magic aren't interested in expirings + pick(s).

Yeah, that price is steep. I like the guy, but he's not a star, and it's like adding another Hayward. Realistically, the Jazz need to realize that Al or Sap, being expirings, aren't going to bring back a prize. But either one packaged with Hayward could bring back a piece they can really build around. Like, a wild example might be Lin. But somebody that adds a dimension we need with upside.

Seems pretty lateral to me. His efficiency has definitely tapered off with a bigger role in Orlando.

Ok, "steep" I'll buy. Take a pick away.

But "lateral" I won't buy, since moving equal talent to any other position would be great. In fact that is exactly what this trade attempts to do.

Again, it doesn't make sense based on their team's make-up. They probably like their SG (AA) and C (Vucevic) most of all and probably want to see what they have in their 4, Nicholson. To then trade their surest thing at the 2 is stupid. To trade it for a 4 when they already have a rookie one they want to check out is even dumber. Especially since Millsap could walk and those picks that you mention giving them are far from sure things. It would probably just be a step back. Even if it's lateral, if you're Orlando, what's the point of moving a step back to move a step forward? AA is a legit starter in this league. They know that. They need to build around him. They probably want a 3 or 1 most of all. If they could get Burke or Poythress, they're starting to build something there.

I doubt Orlando would offer Afflalo - he's a quality starting 2 with a very reasonable contract.

They'd probably try to pawn off Harrington or Redick.
