Wife and I going to Vegas to see Sarah McLachlan for our 12th anniversary. Planning just to be there for one night. Going to eat dinner at Maggiano’s. Other than that, I haven’t actually done anything in Vegas besides drive through in over 10 years. We don’t gamble or drink. Any strong recommendations?

You don't gamble or drink? Well then sounds like you gonna have to go to a strip club.

Thats about it for Vegas. There are shows but most of them are risque. So thats about it for a LDS person. I guess they could go to a buffet but that's also against LDS rules because of the word of wisdom.

Vegas is always kind of a let down... we saw La Riv (sp?) it was cool. We always hit up BURGR it’s solid... breakfast Hash House is pretty good... I’m a fan of big breakfasts though.

NY NY roller coaster is kinda fun but half the time it’s broken.

I don’t drink either and every time I’m there I say “this place feels like one of those things that’s only really fun if you are partying”

Buffets are against the word of wisdom?

Going to vegas with the intention to not drink or gamble seems kind of like going to a sushi place and asking them to make you a hamburger because you don't eat fish.

But I think there are recreation opportunities outside the city. There are a couple places that'll let you shoot fully automatic guns. There is also a lot of good food in vegas.

Plenty of sushi doesn’t have fish. Have you ever had chicken sashimi?

I'll work on my analogy...
Try the chicken sashimi first.

Anyway, we’re staying at the Wynn. I put in an upgrade request to have a corner room with 180 degree view. I’m hoping that’s a strip view (if we get it). I was tempted to do the Grand Canyon Skywalk but that’s like 2 hours away.

I’ve eaten at Luxor and Rio. When we were in Boston last fall we had eaten at Maggiano’s. I had thought it was just a Boston thing. My wife loved the stuffed mushrooms (as did I), and when I saw they had one on the strip I decided that’s where we’d go before the concert.

On a side note, I looked up Celene Dion tickets. To sit in the very back balcony it was like $800. Crazy.

How is it wise to eat chicken sashimi? At least according to Wikipedia sashimi means, that the part in addition to rice is usually raw. Unlike red meat, raw white meat might have all kind of fun extras...

Overeating has been included and clarified later by lds leaders. It's also one of the 10 commandments. Plus there is this:
  1. Meat is ordained for humans, but it should be eaten sparingly and only in times of need: winter, cold, famine or “excess of hunger.

Ah yea, I see they take that as seriously as they take prohibitions on alcohol and gay sex.

I went there a few years back, similarly don't gamble or drink. I really disliked it... the smoking everywhere, in particular. Two things that were mildly interesting though, were watching the Bellagio fountains and going up to the observation deck in the Stratosphere (but that felt like it was pricier than it should have been).

I used to love going to Vegas as a kid. Things I loved as a kid was the smell of cigarettes, car exhaust, and gasoline. I don’t care for the smell of gas nor the smell of car exhaust, but I do appreciate the smell of nostalgia walking through a casino.

Yes, I believe the Stratosphere is expensive. Would take my kids up if they were coming (they ain’t). But we did do the Space Needle last summer.

I was hoping someone would catch that.
