How comparable are the Jazz to the 2004 Pistons? Talent-wise, I think they're comparable. The difference is that the Pistons team was committed to defense and used to hold teams to 80 points, whereas the Jazz like to get out and run on offense.

D. Will ---- C. Billups
CJ Miles --- Rip Hamilton
AK -------- T. Prince
A. Jefferson-R. Wallace
K. Fessenko-B. Wallace

discuss...

I don't think McDyess was on that team. He signed there after the championship run.

If Fes performed like Ben Wallace did back then we will win a champ this year. So not really yet.

D-Will
Bell
AK
Millsap
Jefferson

Thats the starting lineup

And no they are not like each other at all

Deron is pass first. Billups is not.

Bell is a good 3 point shooter. Hamilton was not in 2004
They both come off screens well though.

AK and Prince play a very different game. Just because they are both long doesn't mean they play similar. AK is more slashing SF and he block shots. Prince shoots more jumpers and plays with his back to the basket.

Jefferson is a low post scorer. Ben and Rasheed have never had a low post game.

Millsap is similar to Ben Wallace because of there size and rebounding skills but there game is very different overall.

Fesenko is not like any of them.

They are not similar

My take is the 2004 Pistons won because they had the most top 50 players in the league that year.
Is that true with the Jazz this year?
That may be the similarity.

Than that would go for most NBA championship teams and a lot of playoff teams.

These comparisons are stupid.

The only thing each team has in common is they play team basketball and are tough. That is it. Strengths and weaknesses and style of play is different when you compare players. They run a different offense also.

No. Fes won't be defensive player of the year. And none of our wings have any kind of a mid-range game or craftiness like Rip.

Rasheed has a low post game. he just never used it as much as he should and settles for three pointers time and time again.

He rarely used it. And if you don't use it than you don't have it.

If you don't shoot the 3 you can't be considered a good 3 point shooter

If you aren't passing a lot than your not much of a playmaker.

In terms of level of talent and balance, I think they are similar. I don't think it's enough to win a championship, but it should be enough to make the WCF.

No, that Pistons team was all about team defense, length, and the Wallace's protecting the rim. Utah has no one who protects the basket like Ben Wallace did, whom they could position on the weakside because they had a top-notch post-defender in 'Sheed.
Additionally the 2010 Western Conference is much more talented than the 2003-04 Eastern Conference.
