Mitchell suffered a sprained ankle on April 16 in a win over the Indiana Pacers and will miss more than a month of the season.

The return of Donovan Mitchell to the court will have to wait until the postseason.

The Utah Jazz announced that Mitchell was re-evaluated Tuesday — he suffered a sprained ankle on April 16 — and in addition to being out for Wednesday’s home game against the Portland Trail Blazers, he will not be traveling with team on their season-ending road trip to Oklahoma City and Sacramento. He will instead remain in Salt Lake City for further treatment.

Mitchell will then be re-evaluated prior to the start of the NBA playoffs.

He suffered the injury in a win over the Indiana Pacers and has since missed 13 consecutive contests. During that stretch, the Jazz have won eight games and lost five, most recently Monday night against the Golden State Warriors, all while trying to hold off the Phoenix Suns for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Before sustaining the injury, Mitchell was in the midst of a career year, averaging new highs of 26.4 points, 5.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.

The NBA play-in tournament is slated to begin on May 18, and the NBA playoffs follow on May 22.
