If he continues to play well, then the Jazz will either pick up his option or extend him. Not easy to find a 4 who can give us more.

Probably about right but I’d try a little cheaper. If an extra year is needed, so be it.

    4/55. Frontload it.

Favors is such a critical part of this team. We need to extend him. I don't want to see him in the last year of his contract.

    Good thread.
I have been wrong on what I thought the jazz should do with favors.

I would go 4 years $50 million and guarantee the whole thing. $12.5 is a little bit of a bargain next year but $12.5 years 3 and 4 when he is 30+ will be good compensation for him.

Last year, Ilyasova got $7, Bjelica got under $7, and Randle got under $9. The market will go up this summer, but $12.5 is fair for a guy who plays less than 24mpg.

I was one of those guys in the "we need a stretch four club" at the cost of shipping him out. I was wrong. I have never been so happy to eat crow in my life. Derrick Favors has been a beast!

If the current high level of play continues we need to keep him. He's still not on his career best numbers but he's been having a strong impact lately. I really like favors on the floor while Gobert rests. That's working really well.

I think Favors is an excellent human being, a solid basketball player, a gentleman, and a scholar. As much as I enjoy having him on the team, a 4 year, $45 million dollar contract would mean that our team is set as is. A contract like that would mean that we could not add another player as part of a core 'BIG 3' which has been necessary for most championship contenders. If I could have Favors AND Rubio OR Middleton and a Royce ONeal type player, I would go with Middleton. Same goes for Tobias Harris and a number of other players that I think bring 4th quarter clutch to Utah in a way Favors and Rubio don't.

This doesn't mean to take away from Favors as a player or a person but the cost to bring him back goes beyond his contract and ends up affecting our ability to really compete for a championship in the near term. For that reason, I think Favors will not retire with Utah even though I would enjoy watching him for years to come.

Absolutely try and keep Favors imo, he is a top four player on this team. Much easier and more necessary to upgrade at guard and/or wing spots in the rotation.

12m a year? Sure. 15m a year? See ya. It's going to be up to Favors to give us a hometown discount no two ways about it.

If we are talking 3 or 4 guaranteed years, I agree 100%
