Happy National Pet Trauma Night!

We've got to do something here. Yeah lighting **** on fire and having big colorful booms is just about the best way to show support for your nation, but do we really need to traumatize our pets like this? The ****ing things are losing their ****.

Can we move on from this tradition and leave it to the pros to do the fireworks? No matter how hard I tried I couldn't convince my pets that their life wasn't in immediate danger.

Agreed. I know @fishonjazz agrees as well. This night reminds me of the many times my pooch would burrow into the recliner seat behind me trying to get away from the noise, and me holding her hoping she wouldn't pee. She was always terrified throughout the fireworks. The times we did go out to a park or whatever and left her at home we came home to puddles of pee right next to the door to the garage because that was the furthest she could get into the middle of the house and away from the noise. We finally had to get her a prescription of a sedative they sometime give to dogs for flights and such so she wasn't traumatized on the 4th or whatever night fireworks were going off.

But it's does remind me how much I miss her. She died 2 years ago, although it feels like a lot longer. Still get teary-eyed.

Dont blame the ****ing dog cause you piss yourself at the sound of fire works!!!!

NYE and Chinese NY are the big nights round here for fireworks, current cat isn't too bad with it, she's more scared of my aunt than fireworks. Previous cat was ok with fireworks but terrified of thunder and lightening, used to either hide under my bed or if i was home climb up me and wedge himself under my chin. As a kitten, he would curl up under my beard and sleep, by the time he was an adult he was close to 10kgs, you ever had a 10kg cat climb up you and wrap itself round your head? Still miss him.

Ya fireworks used to terrify my dog. I would plan a camping trip every year to save him from the trauma. He passed in february this year (about 18 years old) so I dont get to deal with it this year and didn't the last 2 years either since his hearing was mostly gone.
I have 2 cats now and neither are scared of fireworks. But imo, scared pets aren't even at the top of the list for why fireworks suck. I rank it something like this:
1. Fireworks start fires all over the place.
2. Fireworks cause all kinds of pollution. Of course there is the air pollution but also there is garbage all over the place. People who normally hate littering suddenly are fine with mass littering all over the place. So much trash everywhere.
3. Babies cant sleep, people who have to work the next day cant sleep, and veterans get to have a nice big dose of PTSD.
4. Pets get terrified, wont go out to pee and end up going in the house, escape and run away, etc etc.
5. People get injured, often times horrifically (losing fingers and whatnot.)
6. Expensive waste of money. Fireworks (especially the good ones) are very expensive and then the fireworks are gone in a blink of an eye. Its almost like literally lighting your money on fire.

Captain ****ing Killjoy!!!!!

1. Starting fires is fun, everyone knows it.
2. Everything causes pollution! I'm pro littering too
3. Babies don't need sleep. People who have work in the morning don't care about me working at night when they mow their ****ing laws every weekend at 9am. **** them!!! PTSD comes and goes.
4. Pets just hate you
5. It always funny until someone gets hurts and then its just hilarious. Anyway how else will they learn?
6. Look its not hookers and cocaine but few things are.

Whats so funny about that pal? Those are ****ing words of wisdom, words to ****ing live by and you have yourself a little chuckle.

Well **** you!!

Crawl back into the darkness of your cave, I will bring my light elsewhere!!!!

My current dog is very afraid of fireworks (he's afraid of a lot of things), we have to give him anti anxiety meds. None of my previous dogs had issues.

I guess I just wish that you could only light them off on the actual 4th. It would be easier to deal with if it was only one a day.

Agreed.

I hate fireworks in general but I will say that I got a lot of happiness from watching my 9 year old daughter absolutely love them. I say that reluctantly because im pretty bah humbug about them myself.

I like firework shows. It's kind of weird because I hate crowds, but I grew up going to the sugar house park firework show where the symphony would play, and it was a magical time for me as a kid.

A lot of places are replacing firework shows with drone shows. I have mixed feelings about that.

How much fun would it be using fireworks to shootdown drones? That would be awesome fun.

Speaking of pets, I bought a roast chicken tonight to give my cat a treat, (she loves roast chicken) anyway she's eaten most of the chicken (I had half for dinner) but she still wants more. She is presently eye ****ing me, with a look that says, I want more chicken ****.
