Should the Jazz trade Big Al and Sapman for better fitting pieces or let them come off the books and just pocket the savings?
Way I see it, with Kanter and Favors, Big Al and Sap are luxuries, not necessities.
I think the jazz should trade them for more help in the back court.

    what do you guys think

I have always predicted we'd just allow Al to expire. Sap I figured we'd trade at some point .. rather than overpay.

For one thing, there's no way Big Al demands that kind of pay check if he continues to play the way he's been playing.... and that goes for Millsap as well.
I say we let them continue to play, and see if they can pull their heads out of their asses. But at the same time, neither of them should be receiving more than 25 minutes a game.
It's to early to start talking a trade, unless the FO has already put feelers out there for both players.
The only players that should be off the table is Hayward, Favors, and Kanter IMO.

Because I have never felt anyone would give us much for Al .. and we'd likely be able to do no more than swap bad contracts.
I always felt Paul would be a decent trade chip.

We should've offered Al for Iguodala or Danny Granger years ago. Obviously Granger is hurt now though.

Years? 2 years ago (the minimum for "years"), the Jazz were 5-3, and had a big man rotation of Al-Sap-Elson-Fesenko-Evans(-AK). Were you really buying on Elson/Fesenko holding down the fort at the 5 at that point?

I don't think either will be resigned, and I'd expect there will be active trade discussions around both at the deadline.

Yes, two years ago was what I was referring to :)
As much as Al sucked when he first came over here, I remember many people on this board talking about trading him.
I would've taken Big Fes holding up the middle with Sap, Kirilenko, Iguodala and Deron obviously.
    Wouldn't you have?

Here's what I hope they do. Trade Al for whatever you can. Preferably a 1st (probably would be lottery protected). Let Milsap and Favors play together. Offer Milsap 10-12 million per year. If he won't take it, trade him (if you know he won't come back for that price) this year for a young pg or big and lets see what we have in Kanter and Favors. If you think he might come back, offer him the 10-12 million in the off-season and if he doesn't take it, move on without him.

With the extra money or trades they need to bring in a young PG (I like Bledsoe if they could get him somehow), and a 3rd big (unless Milsap re-signs).

I am fascinated with the puzzle Big Al is for the Jazz organization. There are only three things the Jazz can do...

    1. Resign Big Al
    2. Let his contract expire and take his salary for somebody else
    3. Trade him before the trade deadline

I am willing to bet that if you had to have an answer now from the Jazz, it would be to resign him. If we let him expire, it's not guaranteed that we would be able to get a quality free agent. If they are going to trade him before the deadline, they need to find another team willing to trade something of equal salary. That become pretty complicated. I'm excited to see what the Jazz do with this puzzle.

    2. I doubt we could get a team to give us better quality than we can get through FA .. considering they probably don't want him either.
