SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Jazz guard and NBA All-Star Deron Williams received his final NBA payday from the Brooklyn Nets, according to Nets beat writer Anthony Puccio.

Williams’ payday with the Nets reportedly ended on Tuesday, June 30. The former Brooklyn guard last played for the Nets during the 2014-15 season.

According to Puccio, the now-retired guard had his contract “stretched over the past 5 seasons at around $5.5 million per year” and through the end of June 2020.

In 2015, the Nets traded Williams to the Dallas Mavericks and agreed to buy out the remaining $43 million on his “contract for $27.5 million, with payments to him spread over the next five seasons.”

Williams had originally signed a five-year, $99 million deal with the Nets.

What makes Williams payday more fascinating is that the guard last played in the NBA more than two seasons ago. The last time the former Jazzman checked into an NBA game was during the 2016-17 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In February 2011, legendary Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and Williams got into a heated argument.

After a disagreement on a play call during a game, Sloan and Williams reportedly exchanged angry words with each at halftime.

Sloan resigned from the head coaching position with the Jazz after the game. It ended a 26-year run for Sloan with the Jazz.

Shortly after the incident Utah’s traded Williams to the New Jerseys Nets.

In five and a half seasons, Williams played 439 games in a Jazz uniform. During his time in Utah, Williams averaged 17.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game. He was honored as an NBA All-Star in 2010 and 2011 before joining the Nets.
