SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz plan to trade guard Rayjon Tucker and a 2027 second-round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The NBA insider reported the deal on Friday, November 27.

Cleveland will reportedly send cash considerations back to Utah in exchange for Tucker and the draft pick.

The deal will save the Jazz $340,000 in salary owed to Tucker to begin the season, and $1.5 million had the guard not been waived by November 29.

Tucker was a star for the Milwaukee Herd in the NBA G League last season before signing with the Jazz. The high flying guard was signed amid a series of moves on December 23 that included trading Dante Exum for guard Jordan Clarkson, and waiving veteran Jeff Green.

Tucker averaged 3.1 points, 1.0 rebound, and 0.1 assists in 22 appearances with the Jazz last season.

The Cavaliers and the Jazz have been popular trade partners in recent seasons. In addition to the Tucker, Clarkson, and Exum deals, the Jazz acquired forward Jae Crowder in exchange for Rodney Hood in 2018.

Rayjon Tucker has $340K guaranteed (out of $1.5M) with the balance fully protected if he is not waived by Nov. 29.

The Jazz open up a roster spot (now with 14) and save toward the tax.

Good value with Cleveland on the 2027 second.

Equal to paying $340K for a second.

The Jazz now have 10 guaranteed contracts entering the season with Mike Conley, Joe Ingles, Donovan Mitchell, Jordan Clarkson, Hughes, Elijah O’Neale, Bojan Bogdanovic, Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors, and Udoka Azubuike.

Meanwhile, Georges Niang, Nigel Williams-Goss, Miye Oni, and Juwan Morgan are expected to return to the team this season.

That would leave the Jazz with one open roster spot before players begin reporting for individual workouts in the next week. The Jazz have traditionally held one roster space open ahead of training camp to sign another team’s waived player.
