Oh god, I played Wow religiously for a little while. I haven't played Catalysm and I played very little of Wrath of the Lich King :/

All I can say is if you want to have an easy time getting into raids or arena I would play a healing class :/ I was a resto shaman, resto druid, and holy priest so I always had an easy time getting into arena's and raids :)

I played WoW for about a year kind of casually. That game is so absurdly easy/boring, it really shouldn't be compared to real MPORPG's. In less than a year I was a maxed out level, fully raid geared (with the grouping system this is ridiculously easy), and had 100k in gold.

On the flip side, I played EverQuest when I was 19 until I was about 28 -- ya, I know -- and I never once reached the max level, couldn't even venture into most raids, and spent the majority of my time trying to find groups. (unsuccessfully, I might add) I would take 10,000,000 EQ type games over WoW any day. It's retarded easy, and thus, attracts the lowest level of gamers. If you're a gamer, you know what I'm talking about.

But if you're going to play WoW, just join the group 'que' or whatever it's called now as soon as you log on and do those easy 5 or 6 man missions. It's a great way to burn an hour or two and you can get great loot and exp.

I played WoW "vanilla". What made that game was being forced out into the "world". Having those friends and bitter rivals. Seeing that guy that kicked your *** yesterday. Or saving your friend from a rival guild. That sense of community. That has long since died in WoW and I long ago stopped playing.

Oh, while I'm at it, make sure you choose a PvP server. And make sure you're an evil race.

Failure to do these two things will pretty much eliminate the need to come out of the closet.

WoW is designed so that you level simply to learn your class. The game begins once you hit max level. Like you, I never had any problems getting into 25-man raids (as a healer), and even participated in heroic raids and realm-first attempts.

The game is not nearly as hardcore as EQ or some old school MMORPGs, but a year worth of content is still pretty significant.

To the OP, rogues are THE most difficult class to level, and the payoff is not worth it. They are dime-a-dozen DPS class. I recommend you start out with a hybrid class (Druid, Shaman, or Paladin). I never enjoyed playing a tank, but I loved being a healer. However, it is easier to level as DPS. I would recommend a Feral Druid. They are a bit complicated, but pretty potent and a lot of fun. Do a lot of instances through the group finder, but also join a good guild. Make friends, and level with their alts (pretty much everyone has multiple 85s). When you hit max and gear up, focus on the Arena. It is the best part of the game!

I was a Huntard, as I was told it was the easiest class to learn the game mechanics with. Ranged DPS for the win. I believe I was a troll? Been a long time.

I never played a Hunter because I was turned off by the prospect of stocking up on ammo. I heard that you no longer need ammo as a hunter, so maybe now it's better.

I believe you can get an endless quiver or something like that. Some special ability? As a Ranger in EQ, Endless Quiver = Domination. I was a scary bitch once I got that one down.

When I finally quit EQ, my main was ranked 8th on the server, and I sold the account for $700.00 bucks. I knew there were bigger losers out there than me, but wow.

That's modest for EQ fanatics. Have you heard of Asheron's Call? It was a late 90s MMORPG. I played it religiously and got really good at it. Then I discovered a bug that allows you to create a duplicate of any item you own. I had a very rare helmet that sold for a lot of money on ebay. I sold $1200 worth of masks before getting caught and banned from the game. :-D

Haha, nice. I had a similar racket going on in EQ: I would leave a "buyer" up in the barter zone and basically just did a buy low, sell high. I had a program that would automatically raise or lower my rates by a few cents compared to others in the zone, so I was always first to pop up on any list or search. I would then sell the in-game money on eBay or playerauctions for RL money. I averaged three or four hundred bucks a month for approx 2 years. Never got caught.

People are still pretending games are nerdy and outside of the mainstream? What is this, 1985?
