What is the championship model?

Did Miami winning change the model?
Many said Heat gave up too much to get James and Bosh, and keep Wade.
Many said they would never have enough depth to go all the way.
They won with broken down vets, no size, no elite type PG, etc.
They beat a team with overwhelming youth, speed, etc.
How big a change do Jazz have to make to compete?
Are Jazz closer than many think?
Jazz have some very good pieces now that just need time to develop.
What is the model to win?
Seems to be hard to pin down other than try to get a top ten player which Heat and OKC have.

tl;dr

My take is "the model" is a bunch of nonsense that everyone keeps thinking is some kind of secret sauce or like the Colonel's 11 secret herbs and spices, treating the whole thing like some get-rich-quick scheme. The winning model is getting talent. Getting talent that can play well with other talent. Getting talent that buys into a team concept. Getting talent willing to play some defense.

Let's not buy into the "well, we'll do it the way Detroit did it" or "we'll be the new OKC" or "we'll just build the way the Indians did in Major League". Let's just get some damn talent that's not composed of total asshats and I think we should be fine.

I agree with infection. He killed it.

How the Jazz can be champs....

Favors becomes the best big man in the game.
Hayward becomes becomes the Lebron stopper.
Burks becomes one of the best closers in the game.
Kanter becomes a top 7 big man in the game
We surround them with nice complimentary players.

Dont expect to be picking high in the draft again for a while. I think we at least become a perrenial playoff team.

So what we got I think is our best hope right now. Dont expect big free agents to be signing here.

No, Miami had to get 16 wins as well. That is the only model I have ever seen that works since they changed the 1st round.

They had an elite pg, his name is LBJ.

Talent is overrated. Anybody can win with talent. I think the real key is experience. It doesn't matter how good your players are, as long as you can get them 4 or 5 games of playoff experience every year. That's all the Jazz really need. Keep the same basic roster, and get bumped in the first round for the next 4 or 5 years, and we'll be well on our way.

Be in the NBA's good graces (and the calls will be in your favor .. most of the time) ;)

I see..

So all we needed to do was to get Millsap to shout at Stern "Don't point your finger at me! I'm not a child!"

OH wait.. it's too late.

I think this is a jab at KOC. I think Freak wants to join the KOC hater club, but doesnt know how to say it.

All your negativity is bringing us down.

I have actually thought about making a thread like this but I needed to gather my thoughts. Oh well here goes...imho a championship team needs to have these things to win. Now some players can be some of these and others can be just one of these. (in no particular order)

A goto scorer - someone to give the ball to when the gem is on the line. Someone to score to break the other teams momentum. This one of the hardest positions to fill.

3 pt specialist - some one that has ice in their veins that can just bury the shot when they have to. 33% cj special will not work. They have to be in the 40%+ area. Wouldn't hurt to have a couple in this category.

Defensive specialist - this is a cretins breed. The just love to get in the grill of the opposing player. The want to take the hardest person to guard on the other team. This is usually a wing player.

Interior defender - see above but these people will disrupt shoots and will bang with the best of them. These people will wear down the other team.

Enforcer - this is a lot like the above people but different. This person has a mean streak. They will put the other team on their arses and will not allow the other team to get to physical with our players.

Rebounder - this is a person that will clean up the glass and give the team second chance points and not allow the other team to get more then 1 shot.

6th man - every team needs a player to come in and score with the second unit to keep leads or extend them. More and more teams are seeing this as very important. Think harden here that's what a team needs.

Initiator (usually the pg but not always)- someone that can run the offense. That makes the others around him better. this is another major key componate and one of the main reason okc lost.

Energizer bunny - this is usually a bench player but some one that can come in for a little bit and bring energy and passion to infuse a team. Evans is great at this. Some one that can make a few great plays and get the crowd into it.

Allstars - you need to have atleast 2 players that are or should be allstars.

Role players - players that accept their role on their team and not cause waves in the locker room.

Veteran leadership - experience is a major player in any series. These players don't have to be the stars but doesn't hurt.

Coach - can be a veteran leader but a coach has to manage the game and not let the game manage him. This is huge for any team.

I am sure there are a few more that I have forgotten but a team is never 1 person but a bunch of people playing for the same goal.

A goto scorer - I am hoping that burks can become this.

3 pt specialist - this is a major need and one of the reasons I want rush in the off season

Defensive specialist - another reason I like rush or want to draft Jeff Taylor. Hayward to a degree but he doesn't have the killer instinct here.

Interior defender - favors and kanter work well 2 headed monster one a shot blocker the other a banger

Enforcer - Jazz lack this kanter could be but ideally I would like to see Evans do this but won't happen. Again Jeff Taylor or Darius miller could be this in the draft.

Rebounder - this is kanter all the way and a lesser degree favors. Would like to see a small also rebound

6th man - burks would be ideal and or millsap if he will embrace the role.

Initiator (usually the pg but not always)- we need one bad Hayward to a degree but I don't see him as a big enough leader.

Energizer bunny - Evans all the way would like to see carol do this more just have a ton of energy.

Allstars - favors is the best bet right now who else will step up.

Role players - Watson and tinsley were ideal, Carroll is good also. Evans if he developes.

Veteran leadership - tinsley was our but they need a few people to step up and lead. Harris failed.

Coach - Ty needs to works as murph in the offseason to learn as he expects his players o work. He needs to start eating sleeping the game. Study study study
