2024 NBA Draft Mega Thread

Ulrich Chomche: The speed is there, he beat most guards. If he was a guard he would be in the 90th percentile but as a big he was the fastest. He was the fourth fastest overall. He has some hidden jets. He also has touch and defensive feel just needs real competition. I would take him at 32.

He looked pretty good in the scrimmage today. He runs the floor hard, moves well laterally, recovers to the ball, and plays with decent motor. If he's really only 18, then he's a solid prospect. He shouldn't get cooked too much out on the perimeter.

When I watch Castle, I see a guy who isn't a lead guard, who doesn't beat people off the dribble, who didn't shoot well, and who defenders are happy to back off of. The "tough, playmaking wing" archetype made famous by guys like Kawhi and Jimmy Butler is attractive, but it's rarely achieved. Odds are that he's more likely to be like Justise Winslow.

Yes, it is rare for wings to reach the level of Kawhi.

Mogbo (spelling?) looked like he could do everything but shoot. Maybe a miracle happens and he gets touch.

I think it could be a toss up of who ends up the better player between Castle and Carter. They will have a similar role imo. Castle has more height, but only a quarter inch on wingspan is not nearly the defensive playmaker. Carter is a lot older which is why Castle deserves to be drafted ahead, but we may have already witnessed the shooting bump that everyone seems to assume Castle will make.

Not gonna lie when I think of someone specific Danny might have his eye on my first immediate thought is Castle.
Castle is like Jaylen Brown or Justise Winslow copy physically... and they have some of the same questions coming out of college too...

The scoring numbers are a bit different but Brown was primary option for a mediocre Cal team while Castle was on a juggernaut of a roster. BTW ... their stocks are practically identical too... and dare I say... Castle's shooting indicators might actually be better than Brown's were...

If Castle develops his shot a bit, I think he’s a lot like Nembhard/Bruce Brown. Really nice player to have.
He is on an entirely different level than those guys defensively. I don't understand why you want to ignore the Dort comparison which is the correct one.

Yesterday he seemed to have a nice feel defensively with the way he moved and always had his head on a swivel. Offensively he is going to be able to finish at the rim and I like the look of his outside shot.

Chomche's shot looked bad but he looked comfortable shooting it (because at some point he realized he couldn't do anything else on offense). I doubt he ever becomes a legit shooter.

So far my takeaways have been:
  • Trentyn Flowers will be in my top 30
  • Enrique Freeman will be in my top 40
  • My takes that Edey is a far better athlete than given credit for confirmed
  • Feel stronger about not taking small guards high in the lottery. You can find quality small guards later in the draft like Simpson, Ellis, Shead, etc. feels like nearly every draft has a small guard that goes undervalued in the 20s/30s.
  • Feel stronger about Castle as a top prospect and am closer to having him as the top prospect
  • Kelel Ware will probably be in my 25-35 range after being off my board most of the year
