A small "core" stayed to watch the game and we had some interesting discussions. It was worth a lot to me. Very good times. Jazzfanz has some really good folks posting here. We can bitch, but we can only bitch because we're so damn lucky.

But you may be confused here. The buy in and payout was completely separate from the bounty. The bounty was optional.
What it does say is that three people were eliminated by people other than Jason and eight people were eliminated by Jason. That's dominance.
Special shout out to SerpicoNJ. Pizza was a hit! We got two 20" pies and I'm about to go smash the last couple slices and kill whatever random liquor bottles I find in my basement.

For the casual observer, the poster formerly known as SerpicoNJ, krazyeyedkilla, QSH, and on and on, bought pizza for this game. So this game held here in Utah got pizza delivered, essentially, from New Jersey. From a long time jazzfanz poster who for reasons unknown has deactivated their account. It was MUCH appreciated! But for me what would be even more appreciated would be to have that person's presence on this forum. A solid voice on all things Utah Jazz.

Poker, in particular no limit Texas Hold'em, is a beautiful game that nearly perfectly combines luck and skill. It is always hard to tell if success or failure is due to luck or skill in the short term.
When I was working in this job straight after Uni we started playing poker after Friday night's drinks... NZ$20 buy ins... company provided beer & pizza.
Lasted a good 6 months, then somebody forgot to lock up the office one night and so we had to stop it.

Jason dominated. I personally sucked but hey, I just got home and don't regret having met every single one of the participants. I've been looking forward to it for a good time and had a blast. Next stop, camping out! Who's with me? Rep to whoever starts the official camp out thread

Does this strategy still work? First 3-4 hands you go "All In". Everybody got scared and folded. You build up your pot and you're sweet for the rest of the night just overpowering people with raises.

That's the feeling I got out of it. If you can start strong and get ahead of everyone else you can then more confidently place higher bets to scare everyone off of betting big. That was my goal but got pretty much toasted right from the get go. Will be better next time. I felt like Exum out there...

I'm in New Zealand.. LOL .. wayyyy to far to travel for a poker game unfortunately.
What you could do next time is start aggressive (but obviously not too crazy as to not give your game away). But if you lose all your $20, no big deal, just do a $10 buy-in later that should last you the rest of the night.
That way you have a chance to dominate & win it all, but you can also stick around til the end instead of just watching everyone else play.
Either that or pool the money together and get a proper Jazzfanz corporate box at the ESA.
