Things I like about Trey Lyles. . .
A. Good size. Has an NBA body and the frame to fill out once he starts with the Jazz strength and conditioning program. If he can get ripped up like Rudy and Favors, then I'll feel a lot better about him physically. 15% body fat is a concern.
B. He's a team player. Played out of position and did well in the stupid platoon system that KY ran last year. Got more burn than he was supposed to, and he did well with it. I like guys that put the team's needs over his own personal desires. Not every competitive player is willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the team.
C. His game is largely undefined. More than any other player in the draft, I think that Trey Lyles can be molded into what his coaches want him to be. Physically he has the ability and smarts to develop into a solid player. He's versatile enough to be moved around and take on multiple roles, but there's a good chance that sticking him at the 4 and letting him work just one spot will pay dividends.
I don't love the pick (would have taken Oubre and his bravado), but I get why the Jazz like him and made the selection. I'm feeling about like I did when they drafted Trey Burke. Hope he proves to be a better pick than that one was.
