What's new

This one's on Deron

Deron was absolutely brutal. I think the fact that he was playing his friends changed his demeanor for the night. Big Al, Paul, and Drei were great except for free throws. Rose made Deron look like he was dragging Rulon Gardner around. Pathetic. The one positive I keep taking from all these losses is the fact that Al is learning to execute the pick and roll. He still can't pass worth a %#$ out of the low post, but being the glacial learner he is, I expect him to be passing well by midseason of the next year of play (whenever that may be).

God bless the (new) CBA.

Another thing about Deron is his style of play that leaves him with an injured wrist or finger or something every year. And then he says that it is not going to be 100% for the rest of the season and he will anyways play through it. And then he ends up shooting a medicore% on 3-pt shots. We have seen this two or three times already. I also realize that I have been pampered by Malone/Stock too much and cannot hold everybody else to that same standard.

But considering the injury bugs that have hit us these last 2 seasons, thats another reason why this teams needs more depth than contenders if it is really interested in making a deep run.

Can anybody trust AK or Memo to play 75+ games next year?

Deron looked like a combination ad for Dramamine and Nyquil out there tonight; sleepwalking and sea sick.

He's looking more and more disinterested. Like he could take home this year's Odom Bong Award.

At the same time, I can understand the frustration. People will bitch at him -- and he was awful tonight, no doubt -- but his on-court effort is still better than anything management has put out.

....the Bull's shot less than 40%...and still won the game? We had 10 blocked shots...and lost the game? Turnovers and poor shooting, especially from the line, were our undoing!

I know this should be in the game thread, but I believe it deserves special mention. When you're as skilled, paid, and revered as he is, the fact that he seemed unfocused and almost uninterested could be pointed to as enough for a loss. However, his play down the stretch was sloppy as hell on top of all of that.

An embarrassing game. Big Al, Sap, AK I'm glad you showed heart tonight, but the Jazz can't/won't do much if Deron isn't leading the pack.

Deron also was on skates all night and had no business trying to guard Rose. I don't believe Rose is that good, but Sloan wouldn't allow Watson to continue to guard Rose well. I guess we needed Raja out there to lockdown Keith Bogans/Ronnie Brewer/Kyle Korver (and lose him somehow, leaving him wide open for a 3).

I don't know if you are blind or just bias but I would like to see you play basketball with one arm. DW is out there playing with one arm because he is a competitor and he wants to play. The fact that you don't think Rose is that good only supports my opinion that you may just lack some basketball knowledge.

Boozer also played. I guess he's a competitor too huh?

DWill didn't bring the urgency. Cant blame that on his wrist.

I'm one of the biggest supporters/defenders of Deron on this site. A bum wrist doesn't explain his effort through 3 quarters, or his rookie mistakes in the 4th.

He has shown this year, a habit of not defending home court like we've been spoiled with in the past.

Ah, Numberica, you're allowed to start a reckless thread every now and then.... especially if you are right.

There were focus issues out there last night, and they started and ended with Deron. Al and Millsap looked great. This has me concerned that Deron is at the center of the post-game saga. We'll see, but I don't have a good feeling about this.

DWill certainly had an 'off' game here. I doubt it was all on his bum wrist; carrying the leadership flag by himself may be taking it's toll on him, especially with having to deal with the media every day. It does become a distraction.
Yeah, the turnovers were very uncharacteristic, and his shot was really off, but Rose is a tough guy to guard, as he takes more shots than most PG's.
