What's new

Head Coach Jerry Sloan to resign today :(

Jazz need to give Harpring a ten day contract, appoint him team captain, and make damn good and sure he beats some toughness into these give-up, ***** bitches.

You mean the guys that lead the league in comebacks in the 4th quarter? Yeah, they sure give up easily...

Quite honestly, this is GREAT news.

Not because we're losing Sloan. That's a nightmare.

It's great because every dumbass b-ball know it all Sloan hater is about to get owned.

Within 2 months we will lose 25% of posters, who happen to be the absolute WORST posters on this board.

Praise Jebus.

This is a great post. Made me LOL. I'd give you rep but it won't let me right now.

Although I want to think that he wasn't, if Deron Williams' behavior is behind this at all, then I want him gone too. I'm a Jazz fan, and Coach Sloan WAS the Jazz, and he took the franchise as far as they are ever going to go, IMO. Deron and other players will come and go. Damn this is a sad day for Jazz fans.

If the players were not buying into Sloan's system anymore, let's hope that some changes will right the ship.

one of the ESPN guys (Chris Broussard maybe) was saying (I think just after the press conference) that Sloan was upset that Boozer and Matthews were allowed to walk and were replaced with others who don't fit the "system" as well as those two did

who knows, if there was some tension between Boozer and Deron, perhaps this was part of it

very shocked and sad, I sure was hoping the Jazz would win a championship under him - - but he probably could tell it wasn't going to be happening this year or next

Jer old boy, it sure won't be the same without you....
but hopefully the adjustments will go smoothly and the team will be even stronger

I missed the start of TNT. What did the crew(particularly Barkley) say about the situation?

Barkley said he was more sad than shocked. Talked about how the NBA was not as good as it was yesterday. Said the biggest honor he ever received was when Sloan asked him to introduce him at the Hall of Fame ceremony.

I've been calling for Jerry's head since last season and even resorted to calling him cruel names. Today I am sad. Wasn't expecting him to go out like this. Good luck to Jerry and Phil, and thanks for the wonderful memories.

I for one have mixed feelings about the whole thing.

On the one hand I felt it was time for Sloan to move on. I think the game had passed him by, he was no longer in touch with his players, the entire league knew the Jazz game plan and he no longer had the illegal defense rule to exploit (I think that has had an impact on the Jazz since they changed that rule, Sloan just could not adjust). More and more he was getting outcoached and it was obvious he couldn't or wouldn't adjust the way he needed to. He was just losing his effectiveness as a coach.

On the other hand I really wanted him to go out with some fanfare and well-wishes for what he brought to the franchise. He is a good coach and was loyal and worked hard and showed us some real success. Most of our greatest moments as a franchise were orchestrated by Sloan. I think one thing that he brought to the game was the demand that his players compete, and work hard. I think these are dying arts in todays world (and not just in sports...it blows me away how many people I have hired and then fired because they were expected to actually *gasp* work).

I really do not like that this went down with some controversy, that we are left wondering in the least if he was pushed out, if Deron demanded his resignation, if he just lost it and bailed out, or if he and KOC and Miller had a disagreement that he couldn't win. Frankly, he deserved better.

Coaches get too much credit and too much blame. I think it was time for Sloan to go. I think the guy who burned DW uniform needs to get a life.

hmmm

Thanks for the great years and memories Sloan, I've watched you as a kid and you've been coaching before I was born. He was a good coach while it lasted but his time is up. I'm glad the Jazz finally did something drastic but ending Jerry's career midseason was a little too crazy, unexpected, and I am very sad to see the manner on how Jerry's great legacy has come to an end. I hope he continues to live a great life and I am grateful for what he did do for our team. However, I'm a little unsure and excited about whats going to happen next!

After hearing all the reports, and reading all the forums all day, I've come to the conclusion that Jerry and Deron did fight and argue. However, I think Jerry did that with a lot of his players, including Stockton and Malone, (probably not to the extent Jerry on Dwill did). The difference is Jerry couldn't keep fighting the fight. KOC, Dwill, and a few other players all picked fights with Sloan it seemed, and he simply didn't have the energy anymore. I'll miss him and i'm sad, but the Jazz will continue to play. Good luck to Jerry and Phil. Just my opinion of the situation. I truly believe Jerry decided it was time, and didn't get forced out by anybody.
