Play Along - if we HAD to trade

Ya'll have an addiction to trading and drafting players.


The goal of the game is to win. Not to make trades and draft. That's what you use to get the players that you want.

I don't understand this infatuation with wanting to trade a really good player just because he can get something nice back in return. If we didn't have Favors, then we'd want to trade a bunch of assets to get him.


Why not just trade everybody and say, wow cool look at all the draft picks we have. Huh? Wut?

We aren't rebuilding. This is the ascending stage. We already did the rebuild phase.

The only way you trade Favors is if you get someone who fits the time line of what you are doing. You don't trade him for an aging star. You don't trade him for a rookie. You don't trade him for draft picks. You don't trade him for a bunch of average players. You'd only trade him for a player like Andrew Wiggins. Someone with high star potential who has been in the league a minute. Even he is a little young. But at least you get some really high upside in return. There really isn't much else I trade him for right now. Except for maybe a swap for a young rising star like Leonard or Butler, but even then I'd hesitate and probably want more because you are giving up a bigger player

Did u trip over your skirt and bump your head? Not one person, not one, said they wanted to trade Favors. We're discussing his value is all.

Now go ahead and write a bunch of long paragraphs rambling about how you think this post shouldn't root for the Utes.

3 of these should be the Jazz goal. Don't think Ainge is stupid enough even though Favors bargain contract with 3 yrs left is very desirable for his goal to land free agents again.
All these teams are volatile and the 1st rounder have huge variance in value they can return.

ATL: Schröder + '17 pick swap, '18 top5 protected. Budenholzer doing a win now mode as president of bball operations? Probably not. He's from the Spurs...

DET: '16 pick swap, '17 unprotected

IND: Myles Turner + '17 unprotected

MIN: Rubio + '17 15-30 protected

NYK: Favors + Burke + '16 lottery protected for Melo

I played along. I said the only thing I'm trading him for is Wiggins. Even then Im not sure I'd even do that. Wiggins is not guarantee. He might just be a fun athletic player who doesn't win. And we have a few nice wing already. We would then need a power forward. Lyles isn't cutting it either.

You think we should offer Mike Conley a 5 year max money deal to get him here. And give up assets.

He'll be 28 starting this season. 29 at the start of next.

So let's offer him 5 years max and possibly get 1 or 2 more good years out of him? He'll be 34 at the end of his contract. No thanks. He isn't that good.

If I'm a point guard with a superior skill set, I would look really hard at the Jazz if they could make it financially worth my while. That would be a pretty good situation to walk into. Can you imagine what someone like Conley would do on this team?

As we noted in that graphic that was posted here, the Jazz have the best frontcourt in the NBA. Not only that, but they are likely to stay put for quite a while. It isn't like signing on with the Blazers or Thunder where you are hoping that the "stars" stay and don't bail one year into your contract (Lillard is kind of screwed.) Your only real competition is Trey Burke and a teenager with a torn ACL. I'm high on Exum, but he was a three more year project BEFORE he tore his ACL. The Jazz have pretty good spacing and you are going to get a LOT of open looks. You will get as much playing time as you can handle and will be working with a coaching staff focused on development. Additionally, you will be credited as the guy who brought the Jazz to the playoffs and the honeymoon will be epic.

I think the worst thing that could ever happen to Rudy Gobert would be the trade of Favors. Favors is the anchor of this defense. His help defense and lateral quickness helps Gobert be Gobert. There is a reason the Jazz were the best defense after the Kanter trade. And it wasn't just cause Gobert came in along side Favors, it's because Favors helps Gobert more than anyone realizes.

Trade Favors for Conley? Hell No. There isn't a trade you could make that would get back fair value for Favors. It is almost impossible to trade a non-all star with all star numbers, because the incoming fan base would scream at giving up the value required. Once they have that damn "all-star" label, you can Deron Williams them pretty easily.
 
An all-star level player is what we should be trading him for if we ever trade him. I don't think it's worth it trading him for anything less and I wouldn't be trading him for a bunch of smaller assets.
