Preseason conclusions after two games

- Hayward, Favors, Burks, Gobert are going to be great.
- Hood and Lyles are going to be potentially deadly off the bench. Consistency will be critical for sustained team success.
- Point guard situation is sketchy at best. Cotton needs a chance but I am nervous about the position.
- Pleiss is not an NBA player.
- Watching Quin Snyder coach this team is amazing. Energy level was a lot lower than Lakers and he called a quick TO down 7-5 and the game changed after that. The Jazz really hit a homerun with the hire after striking out so embarrassingly with Tyrone Corbin.

Everything is spot on expect for Pleiss. He is a decent back up for his defensive rebounding alone.

OP, newsflash! The preseason has not yet concluded.

The Jazz are better than the Lakers.

I disagree with your characterization of his role, respectfully. Specifically with "decent" attached to back-up. Festus Ezeli is a decent back up. I think the Jazz will begin the regular season with Withey or Cooley as the backup center.

Why has everyone all the sudden given up on Pleiss? He is way better than I thought he would be.

Hayward is a major badass!

Gobert is a major badass!

Favors is such a major badass he didn't even need to suit up for game two!

We have three major badasses on this team!

Withey may play over Pleiss, but both will be used this season. We are deep at the Center position. Pleiss can help us whether he is the 2nd or third string. Give him more than 2 NBA preseason games before you make a substantial conclussion. He played decent all summer against NBA players in FIBA.

+We have only played the Lakers who have one of the worst teams in the NBA, starting and bench depth wise so I think any conclusions are inconclusive.

What? Championship bitch! I know because the Jazz beat the Lakers X2 preseason.

copy-paste from the other thread about Pleiss(completely disagree with your assessment, to me he looks like an NBA player who will be good for us once he gets used to the game and adds some strength):

Bum status? Seriously? That's some ridiculous pronouncements for 2 games into pre-season.... especially for the type of games he was having(I wouldn't say great, but he was doing alright) - moves better than I expected on D, has some mean streak in him, Hibbert is horrible matchup for him simply because he's one of the most massive bigs in the league and Pleiss is still a weakling when it comes to strength. That's why Withey took his place in this game specifically. He needs to make some adjustments (stop with the offensive goaltending) and get stronger, but he could be a good back up in the league. Don't forget that this is his month in the league. We have a good coaching staff and strength and conditioning staff and I trust them to help him make improvements in that area.

About Burks-Hood backcourt - loved what they did today as playmakers in the second half. Loved how they shared the responsibility and both were successful in that role. Weirdly enough it didn't seem to work as well when they were on court with Hayward. It might prove beneficial to stagger the minutes so Burks and Hood are on the floor for a lot of minutes together (mostly when Hayward is resting)...

Bryce Cotton is probably getting cut.

Withey is probably making the team.

No plans on this team for Cotton. I'm hoping he gets cut as soon as possible. Maybe somebody else can use him. I'll be very disappointed if he isn't cut....

Does anyone know why Cotton isn't getting run in the pre-season? I live on East coast so cant stay up for games but watched disappointingly the entire first game and he never got in. Neto looks good although imo nothing overly impressive. Looks like a Delladova type player that is more pesky than a good player but regardless if the PG situation is set w/ neto and burke I hope they let Cotton go to find a team in a better situation (cough Knicks)
