Jazz @ Suns Fri. Oct. 9th at 8pm MDT

I don't get the NBAs rationale behind this rule. If a webcast is the only way to watch this game, and they aren't going to charge for it, why is there some sort of geographical restriction at all?

I get it for League Pass and stuff, but not for this

Probably some kind of limitation on their servers.

It probably has to do with media contracts. For instance: It would probably be a violation of the Jazz's deal with RootSports, somehow. Otherwise they probably would.

They could stream this on their website easily.

OK, good to know you have the inside information on the Suns web-stream broadcasting resources. I don't know if that is the reason, but it's a logical explanation (some kind of technical limitation) to why they aren't.

You know how Jazzfanz crashes when there is too much traffic? That could happen to if the Suns broadcast to the entire world. I doubt the Suns have invested too much $$$ (or have any interest in doing so for a couple of preseason games) into live web-streaming.

Good to know you are foolish enough to think that a professional NBA team does not have the ability to so.

Capability does not mean legality though.

Coro actually said this to Andy

@andyblarsen For your Jazz fans, I have learned that the NBA limits the live-stream access to within 75 miles of the arena.

Andy just mistyped.

Yep, sorry, my bad. *Inside*

Still, this means there will be some method of questionable legality to watch the game. I'm just glad they're filming it at all.

At League Pass it seems like it's going to be available there (i.e. it's listed as any other game).
