The Denver Nuggets Have Inspired Me

I really have to admit, the way Denver made out in the Melo deal is starting to change my doom and gloom perception for what is on the horizon for D-Will and the Jazz. Instead of looking at it like our 1 legit superstar is most likely going to bolt Utah and leave us broken hearted, I'm starting to see D-Will as a huge bargaining chip that if used correctly, can lead a true rebuilding of the Utah Jazz. The key for Utah will be having more than 1 big time team seriously interested in D-Will. I have no doubt that New Jersey's lust for Melo really forced NY's hand in paying a decent value for Melo. If Utah's put in a similar situation, they really could turn what is thought to be a huge negative, into a very big positve.

I think it will play out well for Utah. Around the time Utah is going to have to face the reality of trading D-Will or losing him for nothing, a few teams might be in a good position to make a strong push.

-The Lakers would almost certainly be interested and with Kobe's career winding down they may be able to commit some serious long-term cash towards D-Will and a few more young superstars.

-The hometown Mav's have a big spending owner and J-Kidd's salary coming off the books around that time.

-New Jersey and their billionaire Russian owner have proven that they are going to keep playing the market until big splashes are made.

Just like Minnesota was needed for NY and Denver to make a deal, you'd have to assume Utah would need a 3rd team to step in in order for the Jazz to maximize their return for trading D-Will but I think it can be done.

When it's all said and done, D-Will may have a huge hand in assuring the Utah Jazz are successful in the future. He may just do it while wearing a different uniform.

The trick is being able to read Deron's hand and not let him Lebron us. Because he's said he won't tell anyone anything until he's made a decision. We won't get the luxury of him demanding a trade, in all likelyhood.

Denver made out like bandits considering they would have lost melo to free agency this summer anyway. I wish the Jazz would have done the same with CBooze or Wes Matthews. At least they did do something with Ronnie Brewer when they realized he wasn’t in their plans for the future.

Perhaps the Jazz need to shift their way of thinking. If the Jazz are the ones who "love 'em and leave 'em" first, they won't keep getting burned when other teams offer crazy money at their free agents.

Just trade expiring deals for whatever assets you can get, before you loose your guys for nothing. In this small market, that might be the only way to acquire talent, unless the new CBA makes it more difficult for players to leave.

The other key ingredients here were three cba and no cap space. Different scenario than last year when everybody cleared cap space.

I stopped reading after this. You really think Matthews was worth a lot at the trade deadline last year? Plus, he was in their long term plans. I don't think anyone thought in February of last year that he was going to get the mid-level front loaded.

I hate all the trade D-Will speculation, but one good thing that would come of it is getting a younger max money player in exchange. The contracts are much less and give you a better shot at landing another piece. D-Will is either going to be expensive to resign or will have to trade some cash for a title chance like LeBron's 3 and Tim Duncan did. Steph Curry or Eric Gordon won't cost you as much, plus you might be able to land a really good and cheap for a couple of years rookie to keep the pipeline flowing.

My point was (if you had bothered to read the whole post before spewing forth an opinion) that in Utah, the constraints on this NBA team are much different than some other teams. No deep pockets or sunny beaches means there may need to be a more proactive approach to managing talent. The development and eventual loss of good young players is becoming a pattern, so if Jazz brass continue keeping every single guy until his contract runs out, then nothing will change. Here's hoping for the new CBA to be friendlier to this market.

The timing is not right... Deron has Chris Paul and Dwight Howard going into the free agency at the same time with him, and those guys are more popular than he is. Teams may want to try Paul first before Deron so our hands are pretty tight, unless we decide to trade Deron now.

Cool story bro. Let's get in on the Denver dump. Word is they are looking to move Nene and JR Smith. I hate JR, but his contract is up at the end of the season and he would add more outside shooting this season. Nene is beastly, I would love to see him on the Jazz.

All we have to do is give them AK. An huge expiring which leaves them even more room to rebuild next season. They could also use AK to barter with NJ, which have pieces Denver wants.

Totally agree, If were going to trade Dwill its going to have to be now. Not when he is competing with Paul or Howard. Plus Utah could make the team take on Bell and Okurs contract.

You mean just like Boozer and AK were bargaining chips at one point?
