Trade Deadline

from source, Jazz will sit out this trade deadline unless a team wants to use jazz cap space to dump $ or is looking to give player for late 1st. - @Peter_J_Novak

This is not inaccurate. Let's be honest: 65% is definitely a guess, at best an educated guess. But it reflects my belief that the Jazz are likely, but not 100%, to make a trade this deadline. My belief is also backed up with some sourcing, though, like everyone, I don't know everything.

But basically, I have two choices here: to answer the question I get asked constantly, "Do you think the Jazz will make a trade?", or ignore it. I'm choosing to answer it to the best of my ability.

It's a solid number, IMO, Jazz have been actively pursuing trades. That much we know. So the number would be above 50/50. They also have a real need at PG and are trying to make the playoffs, which is not a lock. And they have some cap space to facilitate other trades aind pick up an asset. But, we also know DL isn't going to burn assets unnecessarily or make a bad deal. So, yeah, I'd agree with your percentage. I probably would have said 60-70% if I were trying to come up with an estimate. DL wants to make a trade but won't unless it's the right deal at a fair price.

Don't let the haters bother you, Andy.

Guess teams wanted too much for the players DL targeted. Disappointing, but not altogether unexpected. Also could be the final ploy by DL. Simply walk away and let a team come back to you and take the last deal you offered them,

Thee jazz fan rejoices!

I don't see anything substantial happening; Burke's contract is friendly to trade but at the same time provides us more financial flexibility vs. taking on Teague. If Teague goes anywhere, it's to a team that wants to win now.

I think people forget that Trey's salary at <$5 mil ain't bad for what he gives us; combine that with the escalating cap, a team that won't escape the first round without a massive favor from God.

I don't like Peter Novak's work. I take all that he says with a grain of salt.

Good points. I think it's a no-brainer that the Jazz try to flip Burke + average asset for a year and half rental of Teague, especially if they know Burke isn't happy and probably won't want to be back here. The problem is there is no way and no reason for Atlanta to take that deal. They would, presumably, want Burks as well, and that is not worth it from the Jazz side. And that's why there probably is no deal there.

Remember, why would ATL want Burke? Teague is expendable as Schroder is next. Burke will just bench-warm for a couple of years before hitting the open market again so other than shaving a bit of dough from their cap, he doesn't really fill any need.

Not a trade but interesting nonetheless:

"Scott Kushner: Last Dejean-Jones update today (hopefully)… Teams who have contacted him: #Lakers, #Grizzlies, #Jazz, #Spurs & #Suns. Does not mean offers. 9 mins ago – via Twitter ScottDKushner"

Dejean-Jones had some solid numbers for the Pelicans.

Burke is a solid back-up and bench spark who will let the team become Schroeder's. In the open market, Burke won't get more than Collison, so it is still a manageable # under the new salary cap.
