Looking at the offseason

I think the way to go this offseason is to fill our bench out with productive, shooting, vets, and go from there.

Booker's contract is up, we let him go.
We trade Burke, or cut him. This just seems like it's going to happen.
Don't pick up Chris Johnson.
Pick up Withey's contract

Exum/Mack/Neto
Hood/Burks
Hayward/ /Ingles
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Withey/Pleiss

Free Agents I think we should go after:

Courtney Lee 31 years old, Shot ~.380 on threes. ~10 points per game.
Jared Dudley 30 years old, Shot ~.420 on threes. ~8 points per game.
Gerald Henderson 28 years old, Always seems to score when I watch him.

We could try for Crabbe, Conley, Batum, but I don't think we'd get them.

We will have about 30 million to work with as well, with a lot of other teams having money in a weak free agent market.

Draft:
Either a young guy with potential (I like Korkmaz), who probably won't get a ton of minutes next season or possibly a trade for a vet for bench depth.
Draft and stash guys with our 2nd round picks.

Do you think this would be a successful offseason if we signed a mix of these guys? Correct me if you see anything wrong on here too.

I'd add trade Pleiss for nothing.

That said, I think the first thing I would do is make a legit all-in pitch and offer to Conley. **** it. He can play 30 minutes while Exum plays 18 at the 1 and some at the 2. If we snagged him, our wing situation would be fine imo.

If we can't get him, I'm open to signing Bazemore or Crabbe.

I'd like Batum but he will cost too much for what he's worth imo. I would be interested in the other three guys though.

If we can sign Bazemore, I would look to trade Burks for Tyson Chandler. We could really use a guy (ala Fisher) who knows playoff bball who can lead and be tough. We also need legit frontline depth, especially defensively since Lyles is a bit of a sieve and Gobert and Favors are both semi-oft injured. I think the Suns may legit do it to get younger talent and we wouldn't be stuck with him forever. Two years which is perfect. We'd then have:

Exum-Mack-Neto
Hood-Bazemore
Hayward-Luwawu-Ingles
Favors-Lyles-2nd round stretch 4/5
Gobert-Chandler-Withey

The only other thing I'd do is look to add a potential pure shooter as the third shooting guard. I wouldn't care about his defense, just his three-point proficiency.

That's easy - pick up 3 of the 5 guys on The Clippers who kicked our *** a couple of Friday's ago.

Crawford's not coming.

Bring in Green, Mbah a Moute & Aldrich - they're all UFA's

Conley on the team would be great, I think he resigns with Memphis, I'm pretty sure they can offer the same amount of money if not more than us.

I think Bazemore want's to be a starter as he has shown that he's capable of that this season. So I don't know how likely it would be to sign him as a bench player. Kind of the same with Batum and I think he gets that check from the Hornets.

Is tyson Chandler really worth Burks? I don't think so, he's already 33. If anything We could trade picks for him or some other asset. The suns also have Bledsoe, Knight, and Booker at that 1, 2 spot.

Sign KD or blow it up.

Trade Favors Hayward and all are draft picks for his boy Westbrook at the deadline.

Westbrook
Burks
Hood
KD
Gobert

Oh my god Burks would look so good next to those guys. I bet he shoots over 40 % from three.

Ha. That team is way better than okc right now.

Phoenix would give us chandler for nothing. His contract sucks. He'd be a very highly overpaid backup center. Would provide some leadership though.

Conley would be a slam dunk but I think it's a pipe dream. I'm not too jazzed on any of the realistic options to upgrade at the PG spot via free agency.

I wonder if Jeff Teague could still be had this offseason. I'd be wary to give up too much for him (i.e., the #12) on a one-year rental, though.

Here's a scenario where they add plenty of shooting and don't harm the defense;

Let Mack and Burke walk, sign Tyler Johnson to play some minutes at PG. add E'twaun Moore to play 3rd string SG(take Chris Johnson's minutes), Max Harrison Barnes. Draft Skal (or Marquese Chriss if you prefer a more intense player)

Exum/Johnson/Neto
Hood/Burks/Moore
Hayward/Barnes/Ingles
Favors/Lyles/Skal
Gobert/Withey/Pleiss(or Favors/Skal)

I'm not so sure Conley is a pipe dream. It all depends on his values. He could sign a rich, two-year deal with the Jazz and wager that his stock will rise even further when he's seen as a pivotal piece that brought the franchise back to relevance. He'd then still be young enough to sign a lucrative 4-year deal right after that.

If he plays well and Exum proves ready at end of next year, then Conley easily fetches a late-first round pick or another player to help balance the roster.

We should definitely go for him.

Isn't Johnson a RFA?

Mack is pretty damn productive for the salary he's set to make. I'd rather they hold onto him, and I'm surprised you feel otherwise.

Maxing a player to come off the bench? Meh.

yeah but worth a try. A lower cost PG option, who i'd prefer giving a shot at 3rd string (with Neto as the backup) is Quinn Cook, the D-league ROY. He's 6'2" more of a PG than Johnson and a much better shooter than Mack and Burke..

They could also keep 4pg's, one of Mack or Burke, and keep Pleiss in the d-leauge in that scenario..

Barnes won't come here for a bench role, plus 10 other teams can offer him the max.

If Hayward were to walk after next season it'd be all his.. also they could start Hayward at SG, Barnes at SF and have Hood and Burks come off the bench.

True. I don't think Barnes brings much to this team though. I think GSW matches.

I'm not a big Barnes fan. I think he benefits more from his situation than he would in other situations. Not sure he could efficiently use many more possessions. I wouldn't hate the move, but I'd rather offer big money to Batum... He'd be great here. It would push Rodney to the bench and likely push burks out of town but Nic is pretty damn good on both ends and would get adequate chances to handle the ball in our offense.

If derozan bails on Toronto would they give us something good for burks or go full rebuild and move Lowry? Not that those are the only options but that situation is worth keeping an eye on.
