Trade idea: Covington to Utah

This is an idea I corroborated with a 76er fan on RealGM:

Utah trades #12, #52, Trey Burke
Philly trades #24, #26, Robert Covington

Philly targets Wade Baldwin with the 12th pick to pair him with SImmons(supposedly). I think he makes great sense as a defensive PG who can shoot it as a complement for a playmaker like Simmons, who can't shoot. They also get a back up PG in Trey Burke who needs change of scenery.

Utah gets good depth piece and defensive wing that we don't currently have in Covington to complete our wing-rotation with a young 3&D wing. We also get two late firsts to fill out the roster and possibly take a chance on some of the European bigs or Maker, or Bembry or Prince or whoever drops.

Thoughts?

Love it. Good job stitched

You'd think we could do better than Robert Covington

What's wrong with Robert Covington? He's one of the best young 3&D wings in the league. He just had a season where he finished 3d in DRPM from all wings, while playing on a horrendous Philly roster. He shot 35% from 3 this season and 37% last season. He shoots 67% of his shots from 3. I think he can raise his % even more with better creation around him and more open shots. For example, on catch and shoot 3p opportunities he shot 38% this year and 40% last year. Also, keep in mind we are still getting two late first rounders.

I dont think Philly does this trade.

They are trying to trade for Jeff Teague, they are starting to have a win now mentality and I don't think trading one of their actual NBA players for more draft picks fits into what their new management wants to do.

Yeah, I was surprised they would be willing to do it, too, but the question about the availability of Covington came up precisely in the Teague for Noel trade thread and I just jabbed at it with a trade similar to that in OP and several Philly fans actually thought that it would be a great trade for them(they think 12 is a sweet-spot for getting a complementary player for whoever they draft at 1) and they seem to value that more than Covington. So yah, I'm not saying that Philadelphia's FO would be willing to do anything like that, but at least their fans seem to like the value and the concept.

I like it a lot. I'll take a solid role player and a good defender over another mid-1st rookie prospect.

If fan opinion was anything like actual GM's there would be a trade a day in teh NBA.

I don't think Phillly would do it for reasons Cy mentioned and I think we'd have to tweak it.

Covington and 24 for Burke, Pleiss and 12.

We would only get one of their 1sts and not swap 2nds but we would dump two ****heads.

Maybe we could then package 24 and 2-3 2nds to move up to around 21. Maybe Korky or Luwawu or someone slips. Or we take Maker.
