The growing confidence in Exum and Lyles offensive play....

More and more we are seeing Dante take it to the basket aggressively with maybe his best drive of his career tonight with a slam dunk drive. Two games before that he took it to Biyombo ,getting rejected ,but that's alright ,the aggressiveness is there. He's learning to use his length on his layups.
The pump and go in Lyles game is producing and will get in steady minutes ahead of Diaw and JJ.WHEN his 3 pters start to hit he's going to pile up points
Exum and Lyles both are beginning to show they deserve to be on the court as 1st reserves

Meanwhile, every other player in the league dares to try and make a layup.

Exum - Superstar!

Id still take Booker over Lyles.

Lets see

Booker
Hood
Hayward

Those as our backcourt? That sure would be nice. The shooting would be tremendous.

Sigh.

I've seen enough to believe in both. Exum needs to dial in that jumper and tighten the handle. Lyles needs to get stronger but not bigger... see favors, derrick.

Lyles needs to learn how to play defense and how to rebound. You won't play if you are that big of a liability on the other end.

Booker and that 27% 3pt shooting would be insane.

Exum's three was looking good before the season began and now it's at 32% which isn't good but it isn't abysmal, either.

His FG% is much improved and he's getting solid minutes.

He's going to continue to look more comfortable out there. We're a deep team and so he doesn't need to be Kobe - he simply needs to be both aggressive and efficient.

He is definitely better on catch and shoot opportunities (37.5%). But anytime he pulls up, I'm hoping for an offensive rebound.

One of the biggest keys to this team taking the next step is Exum becoming confident in his ability to get to the rim. When Hill comes back, I'm going to go bonkers on Quin if Mack is playing more minutes than Exum.

As for Lyles, I'd probably rather have Booker still, but I think it could go either way with these players. I still think it's nutty to suggest trading Favors to replace him with Lyles. The only real knock on Favors IMO is the injury concerns. Otherwise, he's still significantly better than Trey.

Last 3 games started ,totaling 93 minutes only 2 turnovers...Dante playing PG is taking care of the ball

No offense but Exum did not impress me with all that perimeter passing tonight. Had a few flashes but pretty much looked like his rookie year from my perspective. He has to become more aggressive on offense. Not occasionally, but every time down the court. He's doing nothing to break down the D with all that perimeter passing. He has to work on his crossover and do more to penetrate and create open shots for himself and his teammates. Still has a lot to learn to run the offense like Hill IMHO. Not down on him, loved that miracle three, his athletic ability and his composure, but he's still a bit green and under-aggressive on offense I believe.

Regarding Lyles, like to see him given more of a green light. Instrumental in cutting the deficit down the stretch tonight. He has good instincts and a high BB IQ I believe.

Problem is I don't think he has the green light to open up his game yet.Up until 3 games ago he hardly got to touch the ball.Let alone play any PG.So now that he's playing PG he gets to touch the ball a lot more . The last three games he has averaged 11 ppg without turning the ball over.
Lot of guys are tired of the passing around the perimeter by all the Jazz players that slows the Jazz offense to slowest pace in the NBA .Exum is just running Coach Snyders slow down offense.

if Lyles BB IQ is so high why is he such a crappy defender ??????

As for X, so few turnovers mean he isn't attacking the throat of the defense anywhere near enough. I'd love to see them all play a little more loose and attacking ..

Coach may be too much of a control freak if that's the case. Kid has elite athletic ability needs to use it.

Lyles is not an elite athlete like Exum also may be a little lazy on the defensive end, still I like his instincts and aggression.

Yeah, seems odd to complain about his aggressiveness after this game, as he had some pretty impressive drives to the hoop last night. He isn't going to become a #1 option overnight. Kid is making progress, and if anything, I think last night showed he's capable of becoming the player we've all hoped for.

I gotta say, Exum has taken a big step this year. I find myself more optimistic about his potential.
