The Utah Jazz still possess more than $13 million in cap space, which could allow the team to agree upon an in-season contract extension with George Hill or Derrick Favors.

Hill has emerged as Utah's priority when it comes to an extension as he will become a free agent this offseason.

The Jazz can increase Hill's salary for the current season while also bringing his starting salary for a new deal next year up to more than $22.5 million.

Utah traded a lottery pick in June to acquire Hill.

If true, I don't blame them. Favors injury history makes him a big questions mark. 3 more years of GHill is a pretty safe bet IMO. He been solid on every team he's played for and he's made an obvious impression on the Jazz.

This may be posturing, which it probably is, but I would be just fine with extending Hill and letting Favs hit UFA.

Cant blame the jazz at all. I would do the same.

It's also the way the contract would work... extending favs would bump up his next years salary and almost surely cost us Hill.

Also I think favors is dead guys... players who are alive are worth much more than dead players #facts

Boo... So they're gonna let Millsap and Favors walk without getting jack **** in return? Sounds wasteful to me.

How could you not conclude they've squandered the return from the Deron trade?

Errors in the draft compound themselves into issues like these. Truthfully it should've never reached this point.

Care to elaborate?

They sold the 35th pick in the 2014 draft when Jordan Clarkson was still on the board. In 2013 they knew Schroder would've fallen in their laps but reached for Burke anyways. In 2015 they took Olivier Hanlan 4picks before Norman Powell who's a SG but still could've easily provided nice backcourt depth, he's tough, long, explosive and plays defense.

Without errors like those, trading a lottery pick for George Hill would have much less appeal..

So now we're gonna downgrade the PF position to further try and resolve the issue that should've been solved long ago at PG.. with a fat contract for a 31 year old no less...

Doesn't sound like snowballing assets to me.. Seems like the opposite.. Like panicked moves from a FO trying to save face..

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though....

Hahaha, another one of these debates? Hahahaha

I agree on prioritizing Hill over Favors.
