I don't have too much time to flesh this out, but I was thinking about whether Gobert and Hayward have paths to either the all-star team, or the all-NBA teams pending that our team finishes off with playoff-seeding and 50 wins.

In terms of All-NBA

Westbrook/Curry/Paul
Harden/Butler/Thompson
Lebron/Leonard/Hayward
Durant/Davis/Griffin
Gasol/Cousins/Gobert

- Butler would have to be considered a SG in this context, which may be inaccurate seeing as he's played most of his minutes at the 3 this year. Still. I consider him more of a natural SG than a SF
- Hayward beats out Paul George here, which isn't crazy if you compare their current levels of production & team prospects
- Rudy beats out DAJ and Whiteside and Horford, etc.-- which is unfortunately unlikely given how dumb ppl can be.
- God, PG position is so stacked

In terms of the All-Star team for the western conference, there's 7 "forward" positions to fill in the western conference. The first 5 will likely be Davis, Durant, Gasol, Leonard, and Griffin. Draymond, Jordan, Cousins, and Towns look to snag the top 2 spots ahead of Rudy and Gordon. Interestingly, our two guys may have an easier path to the All-NBA teams than to the All-Star game, although I don't know how the selection process differs from the two (don't fans vote some in, and coaches vote the reserves for the ASG while pundits and journos vote players in for the all-NBA teams?)

Personally I think Golden State having 4 all-stars and the Clippers having 3 all-stars while Utah gets zero is kinda ********, but it'll make for a fun narrative when we win the chip with no all-stars on the roster ;)

i wonder how they evaluate players like hayward and butler who can and have played the 2/3 interchangeably.

Giannis is the guy I think Hayward would have to beat out at the SF spot, not George. Tall task, he's been playing very very well.

Hayward's days of being considered an SG are completely over. In Butler's case he's been an SG his entire career except for this year, so that's why they may make the exception

That's a good point-- but maybe hard to justify if the Bucks don't make the playoffs

I thought the same thing about hayward but 82games.com has him playing 2 guard 23% of the time this season. They must be off

yeah there's no way that's true

Not necessarily. Coaches vote for 2 guards, 3 bigs and 2 wildcards.

With 5 guard locks: Paul, Lillard, Steph, Westbrook, Harden, one of the two wildcards is definitely a guard. If they vote Klay, you'll have 6 guards.

Which would leave 6 bigs to fill out the roster.

What is bugging me is folks are talking about choosing DeAndre as compensation for missing last year AS when he was 1rst team All NBA. While Rudy is having a better year.

Jordan sucks. He gets a ton of his rebounds from "free" rebounds. He also steals rebounds from teammates and turns a lot of them over by knocking a secured rebound out of bounds.

Aldrige can also eat a sack of AIDS. He's the most overrated player in the NBA. His rebounding is trash and he's the 2nd worst big in getting free rebounds (behind Al Jefferson). https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-of-the-year-is-shaky/?utm_term=.95c2b59671d7

It's embarrassing that he's considered for the All Star game. I take Gobert over either of them on any team composition. I'd almost prefer Brook Lopez to either of those players.

Is there room in this thread to discuss Alec Burks path to the all star game?
No?
Ok.
