What's new

Oklahoma City Thunder (25-19) @ Utah Jazz (29-16) - 7 PM MT

Without Hill and without Hayward the Jazz salary would be 56MM this season.. 15-15 is damn good considering that no?

What would you propose spending that freed up money on, realistically, that would get us anywhere close to the same jump from .500 ball to winning 7 of every 8 games?

That stat sucks IMO, I don't pay it any credence. It glosses over the fact that we have Rudy Gobert at C, Favors at PF and Hood at SG..

I'd probably produce the same end result as a GM, 0 championships, so lets not get too crazy pointing fingers. I wouldn't take the job for free if they didn't let me make the moves I wanted, so it's a moot point anyways.

Favors at PF? Yea he's been beasting this year. Hood is in a year long slump with five decent games thrown in there. I'm not sure what you're arguing Hill Hayward and Gobert are our three best players by far. And we want to pay them as such.

I've been watching the NBA for decades, I don't remember a day like this.. 8 out of 9 favorites lost, only the Spurs won.
The NBA has to do something about the crazy schedule. Your greed risks players' health and ruins games.

Well I find winning 7 out of 8 to be anomalous and unsustainable so thats certainly not the standard I'd hope to achieve. As I outlined in great detail over the summer I wouldn't be going for it this year when the Jazz are so obviously overmatched vs the leagues elite.

I'd take on expirig deals for 1st rd picks with the extra money. Harrison Barnes or Tobias Harris would've been nice signigs the last 2 summers, both lead their respective teams in scoring.

My first move in free agency this summer would be to go after Chris Paul -- Not George Hill.. I'd definitely check in on Jrue Holiday, perhaps signing something incentive based like a 1 year deal with a 1 year player option..

I'd consider trying to package a great deal of 1st rd picks (2017 2019 2021 2023 2025) to move way up in the draft..

My plan, and i always said this and still believe it ultimately is the safest move to an eventual chip -- was to keep the team super young.... Which there's been an extreme divergence from of late(to appease Hayward) -- so my thoughts on what to do aren't worth a damn, If I thought Hayward had a 30% chance of walking I'd move him to the highest bidder

You bring up your plan that would make us worse by getting rid of Hayward/Hill and is justified by the premise that the Jazz shouldn't be going for it during their primes anyways because of the Warriors. Then you turn around and say the Jazz should sign Chris Paul, which is not only unrealistic, but also contradicts the whole "Wait out the Warriors dynasty" plan.

lol.

We can all agree the Jazz have had well above average assets, usually ones that show a good deal of improvement. If Hayward were to walk, I'd say it'd be part of a harmful pattern of the Jazz not capitalizing on expiring assets.

Where we start to disagree is how these appreciating assets are being leveraged. I just think there's a wastefulness in some of their actions.

key question --- What if they made it a point to get a return on any asset that could possibly be lost without any compensation? (Such as Millsap, Al Jefferson, Trevor Booker and possibly Hayward and Hill)

What if they extracted a real return on Kanter?

I say moves like that would've had a cumulative positive effect. Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes and Harris all have a chance to fetch a big price in trade, they aren't locked in.

Along with the snowballing of young talent and signing a sub 25 yo 15+ppg type you have a great foundation moving forward and a team age around 23 thats competitive not 27.

Also at the end of the day if the Jazz were to absolutely **** this season away with real injury issues and land in the top of the lottery --- that's not exactly the worst scenario.

With all this BS veteran nonsense they're a whopping 75:1 to win the chip..

1000 draft picks to get into the top 3 is some 2K ****. There is a reason it's never happened, no team is trading a potential franchise player for a bunch of picks in the twenties. CP3 wouldn't come here in a billion years.

This isnt a free absent destination, and we don't spend over the cap. And yet we've put together a great squad including some really good draft picks. No it hasn't been perfect but no team is. I don't see how any realistic fan could be disappointed with the team we've managed to put together.

So I'm not going to listen to some average joe who thinks he can do better, sorry. Especially when this average joe wanted Harrison ****ing Barnes so damn bad.

Im just saying i'd check in on that type of offer. I find the top PG options in this draft to be superior assets to George Hill for a number of reasons. I like Jonathan Isaac's chances at being better than Hayward too.

This team could easily make the playoffs with Dennis Smith Jr starting at PG next year.

Not spending over the cap and having the 4th cheapest roster are 2 different things, I don't understand why people here cape for the franchises (that they want to win) money..

Harrison Barnes is playing very well this year.. I was right, thats why I made a big stink about it ahead of time. Did you see the last 5 minutes and OT of the last game vs Dallas? he was very good.

LOL...ESPN said if someone placed a $100, 4-team parlay betting that the Warriors, Jazz, Cavaliers and Rockets all lose straight up tonight, your ticket would be worth $26K.
