What's new

Following potential 2017 draftees...

Draft picks aren't to be judged on a one year outlook unless the player is like 25.. It's easy to say that now with Hill the rental here running the show but if Hill walks and then many of those players start to show improvement, people around here will be whistling a different tune.

There's a decent sized list of players drafted 12 and later that have shown promise and flashes this year.

Not that many. There are a handful of obvious choices but most from 12 on have been underwhelming. And hindsight is 20/20, of course. Also, we had few open roster spots and a need for a solid PG and I'm glad we took a chance on Hill. He had a good contract and was a good fit in our system and it was time to finally be a competitive playoff-caliber team. Even if Hill walks I'm fine with the trade.

My point is simply that DL made the right move and I am wondering which, if any, players he likes will be available when we draft. If not, he'll likely do the same again, though since this is a better, much deeper draft, perhaps he won't. I know you understood my statement but I think a few posters misread my statement and/or failed to interpret it correctly.

I think ultimately my post above is 100% correct and I'd love to see any attempt at a refutation. I contend that greed and consumerism affect on the sport has directly retarded the overall level of basketball world-wide.. As much as the game is spreading it's doing so in a very commercialized way.

I'm steadfast in the belief that we'll see the younger players continue to get bigger, faster stronger for many years to come.. I'm not sure if it will ever slow down TBH, because in many ways growth is being monopolized and sandbagged. Maybe in 150 years when the league is filled with Asian 7-footers that have 40" verticals and advanced training techniques worldwide are widespread, then there will be a lull...

The TV people are one of the biggest contributors, instead of really deconstructing the game and the plays, illustrating whats going on, and pro drills or just tips and tricks at how to do things. they're worried about the broadcast having mass appeal and putting like some celebrity on the camera 5x a game. I'm not saying it needs to be some intensive learning experience, but over the course of 82 games a player like Harpring can impart a lot of knowledge that goes unsaid, so he can instead repeat himself. Great concessions are made for little things that help people not turn the tv off, thats what TV is about.

Not gonna do a long rant but there's a reason why talented players with parents who are privy to advanced training techniques are much more likely to be pro's or even div1 players. There's also players like KD for example who have personal trainers at a very young age..

Rudy's father was a basketball player.. who knows what type of knowledge he imparted to him, certainly some excellent genetics.. there's something to be said for 'pedigree' tho.. ofc there's always outliers (Glen Rice Jr.)

This story of the Ball's is an absurd, extreme, glaring example of what I'm talking about..

conversely there's stories of players like Charles Bassey (or Embiid, Giannis) who grew up in soccer countries, some never picked up a basketball til their late years, some didn't have a legit pair or shoes..

My contention is as the playing field evens the overall quality of play will skyrocket. Kinda why I'm certain the annals of history will ust show that Hayward is a very good player, not a great one.

As much as players have improved, thru my research I'm not quite sure if there was ever a more talented player than the #1 pick in the 1959 draft Wilt Chamberlain. I think he's the only player I'd take over LeBron in the big redraft of players (going into their rookie years). Rudy's pretty much dominating the league right now and he only possesses a fraction of the talent of Wilt. He's of course an outlier tho........ I think were gonna see some insane 7-footer thats hands-down the best player in the league before I die.. /endrant

I bust your balls, and it's generally deserved, but you crushed this post. Very well stated.

Isaiah Hartenstein seems like a near perfect match to be developed for the Wolves between Wiggins and KAT.. Him and Karl both kinda tweener 4/5's but they'd be great compliments to each other.

I meant in the fact that Rabb was a projected lottery pick and now he is getting projected in the 20's because he stayed a year.

Yeah but the big difference is; Rabb waited for a ridiculously strong draft.. His explanation was about his growth and development had nothing to do with $$$ and the draft... and it's gonna cost him..

Williams on the otherhand is a better prospect and he's going into a weaker draft.. Top-5 is much more likely.

Williams is about a half a year older in their Fr. seasons too.. It just doesn't matter tho..

DX has him 5th in 2018 over Wendell Carter!!!!!!! thats really all u need to know.. They've also moved Luka Doncic to #1..

Tadas Sedekerskis and Tyus Battle have been bumped into the 1st rd in 2018 on their mock too.. Interesting..

Sedekerskis would be a damn fine stash candidate for Utah this year IMO.. He's just a benchwarmer for Vitorio at this point tho, not sure why he'd be in unless its just to try and goad a promise.. Fans of DeAndre Bembry will like him.

He's a point forward, strong and athletic.. Better prospect than Royce White or Bembry IMO.

Perhaps the most interesting machination in the latest DX update is Jarrett Allen up to #12, he's now the 2nd big off the board after Lauri.

They had him in the top-10 of the 2018 mock before this, I think at 6. Now Williams is in that mock at 5, and Allen's in 2017 at #12 (Williams was 10th last update).

7'6" wingspan..

Hartenstein's stock will be evaluated in the hoops summit week. I think they do measuring stuff there as it's likely that he won't attend the combine due to the postseason schedule of his pro team in Lithuania. He'll start working out with teams late and if his agent is smart they'll limit the on court stuff to default practice drills as he won't have time to prepare specifically for those workouts unlike NCAA prospects who start their preparation as soon as they are eliminated from March Madness. The interview portion with individual teams and medical testing/measuring will also be important when it comes to generating tangible interest from teams.

@GoodmanESPN
Texas A&M’s talented forward Robert Williams will be returning for his sophomore season, sources told ESPN. Was projected as first-rounder.
12:03 PM - 21 Mar 2017

He should at least be evaluated by the NBA to see what his stock is. I don't know why he would decide this fast. He's a likely lottery pick. That's a huge risk staying.

Good job ab. You should seriously consider finding a route to becoming a scout. It's apparent you have a real passion and skill for it. Just need to find a way to use all this info gathering you've done over the years and convince someone. Maybe start at a lower division college level? Or would that ruin the fun/passion for you?

"using your expiring assets to add depth to the squad rocks the boat too violently and may destroy our delicately balanced beamed cakk bakk" - me

I'm confident that I'd do well. Not even remotely qualified tho, not sure how I could be less qualified other than if I didn't speak english... Probably would kill my joy too and I'm way stretched for time already have about 20 or so unfinished projects to work on, all sorts of different **** too, some involve aspects i'm still grossly incompetent on.. Some will take 10 years to complete at my current rate...

I'm able to draw 'actionable information' from some of this stuff tho, it doesn't go to waste. Even tho as I've said here 100x, it's just a hobby of mine..

I'm not exactly a huge proponent of doing a job that youre passionate about either, tbh. I think probably having a job that you like is more important. I really like not working for anyone, and ultimately I like what I do more than the idea of being some scout for a ****ty school. I'm not really a travel person either I had to go to JFK yesterday and it was a ****ing nightmare.

He's probably well aware that NBA teams are licking their chops at the chance to get him... There's no reason why he can't keep gaining steam, it's pretty much a fait accompli, he's fitting to blow up..

DX already has him over Wendell Carter which is a ridiculously strong vote of confidence.. He's dripping with upside.. Better prospect than Favors IMO, said it before..

I was posting that Robert Williams is a lottery lock but might have the potential to go top-5 this year not too long ago in this thread..

The label of most athletic big in the draft is now up for grabs since Williams is gone.

Will be very interested to see how he measures there.. Jarrett Allen probably his stiffest competition for that label.

2 weeks til the Hoops Summit. Can't wait. I'ma be rooting for the international squad for sure.
