Following potential 2017 draftees...

The thing is, people's opinions of players are always skewed by their expectations. A guy exceeds expectations and he rises up the board. A guy puts up better numbers and has better raw potential, but because he disappoints relative to expectations, he drops.

DeAndre Jordan underachieved in college and he fell to the 2nd round. Now he's All NBA. He didn't even have to develop much to impact the league.

Bam is a prototypical NBA specimen who put up 13/8 with 1.5 blocks as a freshman in the SEC. If he measures and works out well, there's no way he'll fall to the 2nd round.

The few games I have watched of the Stars (like 1) and the boxscores I look at, he is playing center (at least in the starting lineup). He has never played PF in any of his minutes with the Jazz.

It has nothing to do with underachieving. He is just an undersized player at a stacked NBA position without a lot of skill. People here can say he is a 4 all they want but the reality of the situation is that the NBA is moving away from playing dudes like Bam at the 4.

While I'm ranting, I'll go out and say that I'll be surprised if Zach Collins is starter PF material. He'll get killed guarding in space, and I haven't seen much if any game off the bounce. Maybe I'm wrong, but he's probably a back-up stretch-5.

This is a case of a guy exceeding expectations and suddenly he's a top-10 pick.

To me, Bam's upside is Tristan Thompson if he can really focus on the things he needs to focus on and not try to be something he isnt.

But he is miles ahead of Bam in nearly every aspect of basketball other than flexing his traps.

And he is a center, just like Bam. Not sure what is with everyone trying to make these dudes 4's.

Bam is markedly bigger and more athletic than Thompson. That's not an upside scenario.

Again, I think Bam is more skilled out on the floor than he showed at UK.

It's a realistic upside scenario. Maybe you didnt realize, but Thompson was the starting center on the most recent Championship team. I guess you could go into fantasy land upside and say he develops a reliable jumper, offensive moves, and ability to pass, but I'd be surprised. His best role would be something along the lines of Tristan Thompson's. A team where they wont ask him to do much offensively other than putbacks and dump offs and he can focus on imposing his strength and athleticism on the boards. If he goes to a team that tries to develop him outside of that I think he will fail. He will have to pick up the intensity too because he wont be able to rely on just being bigger than everyone else anymore.

DX is listing Collins as a PF. He often played next to Karnowsky at Gonzaga. Actually, Gonzaga listed him as a PF too.

He was Karnowsky's backup....

I guess there is more hype for a 7' PF than being listed as a 7' C. Either, I firmly believe his best NBA position to be C.

I'm burning out my phone battery arguing with you. You'll go all day.

-- Collins was listed as a forward by Gonzaga. Is still listed as a PF by draft sites.
-- Good players develop their games as pros. Griffin, Horford and Millsap had no jumpshot to speak of out of school. They worked on their games and became All Stars. Adebayo has the physical talent to do the same.
-- Adebayo's freshman stats rival Horford's as a junior at Fla.
-- Adebayo's upside is comparable to Favors when Favors was drafted.

I'm guessing that Adebayo signed with an agent because he knows he's safely in the first round and will get a guaranteed contract. He has no business falling to the 2nd round, imo.
