re: the RealGM piece: Jody of the DNews says he's posting an article shortly with quotes from the agent as well. I bet it is similar.

Agent will play the middle and claim it was all last minute but I have a super hard time believing Hayward didn't have his mind made up long ago and - of course - he's just new to the situation and didn't know how to tell the other no. When you're wanted and courted, you're going to feel amazing. He probably did want to go to all three places at some point in the last week. Crazy as Locke is I agree with his thought that he knew all about Utah, the good and bad. These other places show their best stuff on a recruiting visit and he can't see the bad. Hayward wanted a soft landing so why not go back to his college coach and the fanbase that cheered for HIM during the season. He wanted to be loved by someone new.

What I think happened is that part of him knew he was leaving, while part of him wasn't sure. I've been in this exact situation with employers and relationships many times.
 
Hayward is a straight up selfish coward. Period. I think most level headed Jazz fans can understand and accept his reasons for leaving, but the way he and his scummy agent handled this reeks of deceit, lies, narcissism, and overall unprofessionalism. I have newfound respect for guys like Paul George and CP3, as they did the right thing (being straight forward and honest)and gave their respective franchises a chance to avoid being left completely devastated and empty handed.

There's a famous saying that seems to always ring true..."A leopard can't change its spots". Your character is your character, you can lie and put up a false front all you want, but in the end your true character will be revealed for what you really are. Case in point: Derek Fisher. Now we can add Gordon Hayward as another example.

This article says he drew up three distinct letter based on which team he chose. They were 90% complete and the final 10% on the Boston letter was done when he chose that team.

I don't really believe it but I don't think I will ever know what's true or not.

Either way he is gone and the Jazz, and most of their fans, will move forward.

I think that so much **** happened with every all-star going West and the Lebron leaving Cavs rumor, it just ended up making too much sense to go to the East. I genuinely believe the "it was a tough decision" thing. I just dont believe he was torn on July 4th, but the day or two before that, sure.

Well, at least someone does. Seemed like a pretty easy decision for him to me.

I'm sure he put all three letters on the board and threw a dart at the one he'd post.

If he does I wonder if anyone starts talking about how if you get to Utah you should stay in Utah.

DWill, Carroll, Hayward... lol
 
Also, some people probably forget as it was a pretty small footnote at the time, but last Summer DL did address a rumor (he denied it iirc) that Hayward had asked to be traded. So the accounts of Hayward leaving the Jazz with no warning or clue to his intentions the year prior may be wrong.

Did Carroll say he should have stayed in Utah :confused:

He made a great career move. He became an All-Star in Atlanta and got a huge contract in Toronto. His career went way better after he left.

In the case of Dwill/Carroll it was more the injuries than anything.

If Hayward indeed asked to be traded and we didn't that's gross incompetence IMO. That should be fireable offense. I know there were rumors Hayward was unhappy and wanted to get traded to Boston, but the word that came out of it is that it was all fake and DL and Hayward had a talk about the rumor and what Hayward really wanted and so on and so forth. But yeah, if he truly told them I want out and they still didn't trade him... that's bad. That becomes all on DL.
