What's new

Readjusted /revamped expectations after one game

Burks has a skillset that nobody else on the team has, and something that we really lack if he is not available. To give him away for couch cushion change would be moronic. At the very least he should be taking time from jazzmen who aren't hustling back when Rubio is pushing the ball. I saw a lot of Rubio being way ahead of everyone else in pushing the ball. Quinn needs to fix that.

The thing about Rodney is that when he is on, he's great, he can score at will. But that's all he contributes. When he's off, he's worthless. He's not a great defender or rebounder or passer. Burks too is streaky, but he's a great rebounder, and I think a better passer than Rodney. His defense, probably on a par. But we're not looking for Burks to be the man, just a guy who can come in, create his own shot, and put up points when the offense is struggling.

Hood isn't a bad defender and is certainly better than Burks on d.

AB seems to have turned a corner mentally and is really trying on defense too.

He only had one classic long AB 2. When guys are ducking under screens he is stepping back and making them pay. Also he is actually using the screens instead of going the other way and trying to beat his guy one on one... need to see it a few more times but was so happy to see him have success last game.

I've been a major Burks doubter, he plays selfish unsmart basketball, but I'm giving him a chance if he's making buckets. It's put up or shut up time for Alec.

I think I adjusted my expectations about the same time Mitchel found out he was starting.

Hood's anxiety or IBS or whatever it is. Good luck Rodney.

Yeah, I am in the camp of waiting a few more games. Let's see if a trend develops.

I thought Alec played a little more under control, and made an effort to play defense. It is just not his instinct. I am hopeful, but cautious because Quin likes certain types of players.

He played 15 minutes in a game Hood only played 18. What happens when Hood actually plays?
Well, if he keeps doing what he did against the Nuggets, he will build up his minute while Hood, and others goes down.

I have never felt he was selfish, ever!! He's an attacker by nature and style of play. It may come off as selfish, but I've never seen him as a selfish player. Personally I don't understand u people sometimes. All of a sudden he's not selfish, and plays smart because he played well. Had he missed his threes and a few of his other shots he'd taken, u same people would be saying he plays outside the context of the offense, and plays selfishly and all this other crap, while still playing the same as he always has. When healthy and getting minutes, he's always been a positive force for the jazz. There isn't anyone better to lead the second unit.

Why? Both Favers and Burks have shown through preseason, and game#1 they are healthy, they've proven the players they are when healthy. They are both still young and coming into their primes. Show some faith!! Get on board already. The only thing they need to prove to me is that their injury issues are behind them. They've proven already that if healthy, they are most definitely a part of the jazz future.

Lot's of reasons. Their MPG, Jazz lineups (their role), intensity and competition levels have gone up. I try not to take 1 game and make that a solid predictor of future success or failure. Let's see what they do on the road and with a tougher team. Obviously I am hopeful but let's just cheer them on and see where this goes.

At the very least, AB needs to be kept until a decision is made on Hood. What if Hood is still inconsistent, averages around 16 per game, misses 15 with various injuries and demands $20m+? I'd say buh-bye and if a starter can't be found this summer, then Alec is still a rotational player or expiring to include in a trade.

Right now, paired with Mitchell, he's able to take some pressure off the rookie. Quin originally did not want to play DM as a PG. And Mitchell said he plays differently when in that role. But with no Exum, DM is having to be a play maker. Alec helps in that respect.

I might be alone in my thinking, but I still believe Rubio and Mitchell should be the starters, with Ingles off the bench, and a bigger 3 needs to be found. In that scenario, Hood is traded or leaves in free agency. Mitchell is just too good not to be a starter and I don't think Hood can guard opposing 3's.

I'm hoping Favors plays only PF this year and Udoh gets the backup spot behind Gobert exclusively.Favors was moving around easily and had his explosion back which bodes well for his weakside help on defense.Udoh did just fine manning the middle with Favors and with JJ.
Burks playing as well as he did is going to get him 15/18 minutes a game playing behind Hood but I think the minutes trend up as he gets his playing shape back. Also because Mitchell is raw at PG and it won't be as easy as most here think for him to be good running the team.Burks will alleviate that pressure playing with Mitchell.
